Just lost the internal hard drive on my legacy quad lost a ton of recordings in the future how can I utilize the usb port with an external hard drive with another drive to backup my internal drive?
I suggest looking at Tablo Tools, it can be used to make copies of recordings onto your PC. Tablo Tools is for Legacy only.
I thought I would chime in here. My solution presented, and confirmed working fine on my end, would be OK for the newer generation Tablo’s as well. You don’t need any specific Tablo tools just basic forensic software capturing abilities.
I do have very fast ddr5 and nvme’s to write to, but I simply do a forensic backup of the entire 1 TB drive in my Tablo. My advanced system writes out at 40 GB per second, but of course the write out is bottlenecked by the much slower SSD in the Tablo.
I wanted to mention this because IF the aforementioned tool above is for legacy only my method works for any drive on any device – period. I simply connect it and come back in an hour or two and its fully “forensically” captured. I don’t keep much on my Tablo drive, but this option would be great for someone with a few hundred GB of shows they don’t want to lose. Plus if your current SSD craps out you can write the captured save to a new drive and it will work perfectly out of the box. My .02
If you are the proactive type SSD’s are dirt cheap in the 1TB versions. You could grab another one and forensically clone your current SSD and have the new one ready to simply swap out if needed. This suggestion is for folks with older slower systems where a 1TB write out could take 3-5 hours.
ps - For me it is much easier to remove the SSD and connect it to MUCH faster methods of read/write where the only limits are those placed by the older SSD technology.
For Tablo Mgmt ---- it really might be better to setup and configure recording to NVMEs in your next hardware configuration. Cheap, faster!! Unbottlenecked from SSDs you really can inch up to 40 GB per second. It is 2024 after all!!
