Fired up Tablo this evening and all recordings are gone. I believe I had at least 10-12 recordings from a variety of shows/sports.

Default Tablo storage (no external drive)

Have you tried multiple devices to see if they are gone? If these are missing on only one device, it likely is just some sort of connectivity issue (so try rebooting).
If they really are missing from all devices, then submit a trouble ticket.
Missing on all devices. Trouble is they are gone, ticket won’t solve it.
Back to my original question: is this a known issue with the Tablo 4th gen device and it’s internal storage. I see some reports on here, but those appear only related to external storage
When I got my Gen 4 Tablo back in Jan 2024, I used the internal storage with no issues. My wife was getting pissed that she was running out of room. So upgraded to a external 4TB drive.
Edit: did upgrade to the 4 tuner later on.
I have never heard of this happening on the internal storage. The few cases I have heard about with external storage are due to drive failure, usually from someone using a substandard drive.
I only used the internal drive for a few weeks to test the system. It doesn’t hold as much as you think it does. The advertised capacity assumes low-resolution recordings. Also, when that internal storage fills up, the Tablo can get unstable.
I do recommend getting a good quality external drive. It is worth the expense. I have a 2TB Western Digital.
Here is a good one:
Hmmm …well, we were recording a lot of fishing (Bassmaster) and NCAA basketball yesterday, plus our recoded items already in storage were consuming a good amount of space
Very possible we filled it. The Tablo is supposed to manage space (auto-delete) but maybe that doesn’t work effectively in real-time.
Will keep an eye out on my recordings and look into external storage. Is there a list of supported drives/enclosures?
I’ve had my 2 tuner since Sept 2023. We are exclusively record, watch, delete, repeat with our 4th gen. Never save anything for later and never watch live TV. We have only used the internal storage and it never gave us any trouble. And never gets more than around 10% full.
Ok, my wife and I have retraced what happened yesterday to our recordings.
After watching another show on Netflix last night, we came back to Tablo and went to the library, where we fist deleted all the NCAA, Hockey and NBA Games we already watched or didn’t care about. After doing this we went back to recordings and nothing was there.
So, we didn’t lose all recordings. I now suspect that auto-delete worked as advertised and deleted older recordings to make space for what we recoded today.
I will be watching things today as we have a lot recoding and I have added more for testing:-), but suspect we just need more external storage based on our usage.
This is why I got a 4TB drive, and disabled auto-delete.
I want to decide what gets deleted, regardless of how old it is.
There is an option to protect a recording from being deleted, but also got tired of dealing with that, too.
Super, glad you were able to figure it out.
Yep, confirmed. Recording all the NCAA games, Bassmaster (Day 3) and 2 hours of local news before 12PM today has so far filled almost 50% of the internal storage. Clearly I need external storage :-).
Hope this thread helps others, especially around high demand recording days.
What they have is more like guidelines. Follow this link. Most of the information you want is near the bottom of the page.
Thanks for the link. I need to remember to look at the Tablo support pages first
I found this article on how the Tablo archives to be very informative, especially around the limitations of the internal hard drive during archiving.
Well, it happened again…thanks NCAA, NHL, MLB. All of our unwatched recordings for the past week got deleted (auto-delete enabled). Looks like I learned my lesson twice.
Just purchased external storage (Western Digital 8TB Elements Desktop External Hard) and it arrives tomorrow
That should solve that problem for awhile.
Wow! I have a 2TB and it has never gotten more than 30% full. With 8TB, you will never need to delete anything.
$169…storage is cheaper than the old days.
“Old days”? I got my 2TB about six months ago. It is and SSD, but still. That is a great price.
I was referring to 30 years ago when I was buying hardware for computer labs at work, apologies.
Really old days…
I paid ~$1000 for a 500MB hard drive.
Really, really, really old days…
I paid $800 for a 65M hard drive (for my Amiga).
