4th-gen Tablo (TF1284B-01-CN) bricked by firmware update — no LED, won't reset, dead on the network

My 4th-generation Tablo (model TF1284B-01-CN, 4-tuner) died the night of the recent firmware update (~Sept 9) and I can’t recover it. @TabloSupport

What it does now:

  • Began blinking white ~once per second and never checked into your servers.
  • I verified on my own network that it made no connection at all after ~11 PM the night the firmware installed — no DHCP lease, no DNS, unreachable on both wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi (other devices on the same network are fine).
  • It has since degraded: after further resets, the LED now just flashes for ~1 second on power-up and goes out entirely.

Everything I’ve tried (all unsuccessful):

  • Multiple power cycles, including a ~50-minute full power-off.
  • Quick press-and-release reboot (per your reboot article).
  • Full factory reset — held the bottom button firmly for 50+ seconds; I never get the blue reset LED at any point, so the unit isn’t accepting reset input.

This looks like the firmware update bricked the unit — it won’t accept a reset and won’t boot far enough to reach the network. I understand it’s just past the 12-month warranty, but since a firmware update you pushed killed a working device (and I see I’m not the only one — the “Tablos keep dying” thread), I’m hoping you can help with a replacement. Happy to provide the serial number, purchase info, and my network logs showing the exact failure time.

Thanks.

Hi @Tetchytech,

Sorry you’re running into that,

We haven’t released a firmware update for the 4th Gen recently. The last one was here: NEW - Tablo (4th Gen Only) Firmware Release (2.2.58) - Announcements - TabloTV Community

We did push some software updates for our Apple TV, iOS, Samzung and LG apps but that would only affect how Tablo works on those devices.

Would you contact Tablo Support? They should be able to help.
