Is there a time frame for the Apple TV app? I’ve stopped recommending the Tablo (except Tablo Legacy) over the lack of apps for Apple TV and smart tv platforms like Samsung.
If you have no intention of supporting Apple TV, just let everyone know and we’ll move on. But you’ve been stringing everyone along for, what?, 5 months now?
It is just unusable in my Family unless it’s able to operate thru Apple TV. I think they will do it, I am getting sceptical about the time frame. Once you choose a family streamer it takes up one of the HDMI ports and everyone becomes comfortable with it, that’s usually it. I know I am not going to switch the whole family around to another streamer just for this. No Apple Tv App, No me.
Get their act together or Best Buy will have lots of returns
If no ot fixed by my return deadline, then back to Brdy buy. BB Why me: Tablo not timely fixing problems
I have no plans to return mine. Not wasting time as mine is already fully setup, set up a lot of series recordings and I am just going to use an Android device temporarily. Really not a big deal to me as we know one is coming.
If you saw my post above, I am almost all Apple, but I do realize the number of AppleTV device users is probably not close when compared to Roku and Android users. So I can understand why companies might make the AppleTV app last as you want to cover the biggest user bases first.
There will beta test the app before releasing it to the public. You could try and get on the beta tester team for the Apple TV app. But as of right now there is not a Apple TV app.
Has AppleTv ever changed their hardware to support native MPEG2 streams? Isn’t that the whole issue? The HDMI Tablo didn’t support AppleTv because of that.
I can understand why this is the last main app to be released. There must be a workaround to this issue, but it has taken a lot of time.
I bet that’s it. They are trying to make sure it is perfect the First Time. If that’s the case I will wait. I have had somethings that needed firmware updates from day 1 and it’s NO Party.
Wait, googling around, the iPhone and iPad don’t support MPEG2 either. So they must already have a solution. The mystery of the missing Apple TV app continues.
They must know how to do it as the iPhone and iPad are already working, so its just a matter of time. I also think they would not keep saying soon or close if one is not already working.
Isn’t it software that’s responsible for compression and decompression of video? LIke when you’ve got a barebones linux install and only certain videos play until you download the codecs (or another app). Even Quicktime on a Mac can’t do a whole lot, so then ya get frustrated and install VLC… I would think that the same software creating the file would be able to read and play it. I’m sure I’m missing something since I haven’t used an AppleTV since the HD, so please help me understand how this would be different than any other OS.
The issue is that Rokus, FireTv, and AndroidTV natively play MPEG2 streams. AppleTV does not. The Tablo developers typically use the built in tools in these devices to build their apps, which is why you see fast forward and rewind being different amounts of time on different platforms.
As stated by others, iPhones and iPads have the same limitation, yet they do work, so there must be some extra software involved. My guess is that software is not the same on AppleTv or it is harder to install.
I have no idea what TV apps use (Samsung, LG, etc) for MPEG2 streaming.
I was wondering if this might be the case (just using what was already there and hoping for the best). Still, I can’t imagine that it would be that hard to get some FOSS codec to take care of this. (After all, my router thinks my Tablos are Linux machines already!). Besides, what’s more old school and common than MPEG2? Guess they’ve been stuck in their QuickTime.mov world for so long they’re still hoping it’ll catch on?
Hoping for the best for you guys, but I don’t think I’m dusting off the ol’ AppleTV box. But then again, I like maxing devices out and putting them through their course… guess it depends on when they finally release the TVOS version.
