Hi there. I just moved back to the U.S. from overseas, and I was committed to cutting the cord. After doing a fair amount of research, I decided to take the plunge with Tablo.
Wow, I am so impressed. Set-up was super-easy. Even with the antenna in the back corner of our living room, I’m getting 25-30 channels, all crystal-clear. It took me a while to set up our big TV in the basement, so I had been wondering whether our home wi-fi network would be strong enough and fast enough, and I was wondering whether my old iPad 2 would have enough processing power to flip the feed through Apple TV to our big screen. Wow, it’s fantastic.
The only hiccup so far was some pixellation during a huge thunderstorm, but I can live with that. All systems are go.
So I figure it was $220 for the Tablo, $50 for the antenna, $60 for the portable hard drive, and $150 for the lifetime subscription. So that’s a total outlay of $480. Conservatively, cable TV where I live is probably $90/month for a basic package (once you include the taxes, the “fees,” the rental of the various boxes, etc.). In fact, it’s probably closer to $100 a month, if not more.
Which means that my groovy new Tablo system will pay for itself inside of 5 months. In two years, I will have saved nearly 2,000 bucks.
Wow. Thank you.
