Why is AppleTV app far more stable than Roku app?

Longtime Tablo user. Primarily use latest Roku Ultra and a couple sticks. It has never been rock-solid even back with the Gen3. The Gen4 seems a little more solid and of course more feature-rich, but we still occasionally (1-2 times a month) have to troubleshoot/reboot/reinstall the Roku app.

A week ago I purchased a current-generation AppleTV and of course put the Tablo app on it. It’s performance has been ‘stellar’ compared to the Roku sticks and Ultra. In fact, last night the Ultra would not connect to the Tablo. While it was spinning, I launched Tablo on the AppleTV, started several live and library feeds, rebooted it, killed the app and restarted - all 100% rock solid - and fast. I had to resort to uninstalling/reinstalling the Roku app to get it to work again.

My local network is all relatively new Ubiquiti gear, so I don’t suspect it at all.

Except for the missing feature to play something being recording, I’d only use AppleTV.

What gives ?

Roku has a tendency to “break” things for devices like the Tablo with their major releases. I moved off a Roku to another device as my primary Tablo device (Google TV Streamer) and have been pretty happy since.

Add in that Apple is usually pretty focused on a good user experience and you start seeing patterns.

I can’t attest to the AppleTV app because I don’t have one but I have no issues whatsoever with my Roku and the Tablo app. I have never had to uninstall/reinstall/etc. the Tablo app on any of my devices which are Roku Ultra (2), Soundbar (1) and a stick. Hopefully I haven’t jinxed myself.
