And I could watch those TVs. Or, hear me out, let me watch my Tablo remotely from my phone or computer, without using a VPN or anything extra like that.
I’ve already upgraded my antenna, my antenna amplifier, and just bought a 1TB SSD for the DVR. It’s becoming less and less of a value for me.
Maybe but it really depends on how long you intend to stick with OTA-with the antenna you brought. My Relatives are paying over $85 a month for YT TV. I have had Tablo for ~27 months now. Yes there are things we all want improved on the Tablo but the value I personally don’t think you can dispute. I’m hoping for the remote scheduling to become a reality but time will tell.
Tablo has it on their future ‘wishlist,’ and I think the Legacy model allowed remote viewing (I’m sure someone will correct me if I am wrong).
Tablo has said that remote programming is a higher priority. Also, remote viewing in the file format that Tablo uses would require a fair amount of bandwidth.
I think they’ve mentioned remote access (both viewing and management) to be on their list.
Also, with remote viewing, there are problems like double-NAT and older Internet services that offer 300mbps down and 20mbps up. That upload speed could cause a bottleneck. However, this shouldn’t be a problem nowadays with fiber that is at least 500d/500u or better.
The VPN method really is quite slick. Just ask ChatGPT or Gemini for the steps using Tablo with your routers make and model.
