What did they screw up now on the Gen 4?

This thing (or maybe more correctly, this software) is just a piece of junk. Besides all the little glitches that should have been fixed, now this thing has started another weird behavior over the last 10 days. When starting up, it sometimes works fine (rarely). Most times, I was getting a message to login, or it couldn’t find it, or whatever. After a few seconds, it would proceed to the normal screen. This morning however, it was just stuck on the loading screen. So after multiple tries, I restarted everything (Roku box included). Then when I would start the app, the screen would go black and the Roku would restart. All other Roku apps worked fine. FINALLY after multiple tries, I got to the normal Tablo Gen 4 screen. Y’know the old Tablos might not have been so ‘pretty’, but at least they worked the majority of the time. I wish there was an alternative, but we are stuck with this POS.

My 3 OG Tablos were not offended.
They know they’re good.

I assume you can buy used Legacy Tablo’s on eBay or similar. Sure, you need to pay for a full guide, but that may be worth it rather than put up with all the bugs.

That sounds like a communication issue. When you say you restarted everything, did that include your router? I find that often helps.

A couple days ago when I launched the Tablo app (Gen4) in my living room using the Roku Soundbar I got the screen that said no Tablos found that lasted MAYBE 2 seconds then the Tablo home screen came up with no problems afterward. I agree with @KGBnut I think it was a network communication glitch. It is helpful to remember to close the app properly and not just hit the Home button on the Roku remote otherwise the Roku eventually runs out of available memory and auto restarts. That happens on my soundbar frequently because my daughter does not close Tablo down (or other apps) properly.

This has long been the case on Android-base systems, like ONN, but lately I have found it to be helpful on the Roku as well.

Nope, it’s a Tablo issue for sure. On my Roku I get these glitches. When I switch to my ONN streamer, those issues go away. Of course, there are others, but at least I can get into the app.

You might try doing this since whenever I have an issue with the Tablo v4 app on any platform, I go into Settings and change my Channel Lineup by adding or removing some channels so that the Tablo v4 has to rewrite (not just update) the channel guide. After I did this, the app issue on whatever platform I had the problem with started working again. I then changed the Channel Lineup back to what it was before and the platform app still continued to worked.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep it in mind for next time. I’m sure there will be a next time with this buggy software.
