What can I expect for OTA wireless distribution?

Forgot to check E-Bay. That helps bring it down some - Thanks!

I’m leading that way too! The additional cost to get an older unit and storage device, albeit, one that seems to work with Roku consistently, it seems like waiting for the engineering to catch up on the Gen4 so that it meets or exceeds the Legacy performance on that platform, makes most sense. Having the internal storage with Gen4 minimizes the footprint and eliminates any interconnect issues with additional cables, power plugs, etc. Hope Tablo is reading these threads! Thanks for you advice!

With my dual lite and Roku in scheduling it is a + with add beside it at top of screen, with windows 10 just a + sign on scheduling screen.

Thanks for clearing that up. Been a 3 month email back and forth. Guess they forgot what system I was using!

They may have added it to the 4, is hard to notice with Roku tiny box in far right top of screen with + add

Haven’t seen this button on Roku Android, Fire, or mobile.

IDK. You can’t do anything to a channel without data other than play it by selecting the station ID from what I have on my screen. I suppose it’s easy to get confused when a ticket goes from person to person to person and you don’t always get the same rep.

Their exact words: “You can also schedule manual recordings for these channels using the ‘+’ button on the top right of the Scheduled tab.”

Only thing at the top right of any screen is the settings menu!

They must have been in a real hurry to release 4, is common for OTA’s to have missing or wrong data…

---------Any USB Hard Drive should work as long as it is USB 2 or USB 3.Tablo can support up to a 8TB drive. Your Tablo uses approximately 2 GB per hour of HD content.

For example, a 500GB drive will record ~250 hours of HD content, depending on the recording quality selected. USB Flash Drives are not supported. -------------

. From here ---------- Unboxing & Connecting the Tablo DVR – Tablo (tablotv.com) ----------- The 20 would probably work have seen people posting here with 80’s.

In my case, it’s not Tablo’s fault, it’s the OTA stations themselves. They do not provide local data – it’s the same thing if I connect the antenna directly to the television. I may not understand why the information cannot be pulled from the internet and brought back to my Tablo, but I can’t expect more than the station is doing.

Again, this is a little bit different because they’re not main stations, but I have to trust that Tablo is in contact with the stations (as stated in that email)-- even though I might never watch them!

So, does the new Tablo release seem to have addressed a lot of the issues with Roku users - particularly those related to live watch - shut downs, etc.? Just wondering what the general consensus is on the issue - thanks!

I apologize if this should have gone into another topic header, but have been getting a lot better info and feedback here than what I’ve seen elsewhere.

I think it has.

Again, I had issues when I 1st started with Tablo and 90% of the issues were my own. Even after I leveled out my wireless network, the crashes didn’t happen very often, maybe a few times a week.

With this new Roku update, I had no issues. But again, my experience wasn’t as dramatic as others. I was also open to investigating my own network.

Why are people so afraid of doing this? EVERYTHING needs a reboot every now and then! ANYTHING can go wrong with ANY device! (Sorry, sore subject.) With things automatically updating all over the place, you never know what tiny issue might have triggered a bigger problem.

I’m old-school, though. If something does more than a basic app update, it gets rebooted. “Stable” and “properly working” are not the same thing.

Moving on, most of my issues were my own as well. Changing network setup and hard drives has improved my Tablo experience 10-fold.

I see this too frequently - with no substation. I suspect it comes from the old Windows days, users believe the way of Window. In the end, making something go away temporarily doesn’t truly fix anything.

I can’t recall the last time I’ve rebooted my tablos, which runs a Linux based system, just because (as others here have reported).
My media PC has gone +60 days or more running Debian Linux with out needing a reboot. Even then it didn’t need it.
My router, running 3rd party firmware (FreshTomato), goes +90 days at least. Likely an upgrade or major configuration change, maybe power failure,

I agree

But mandatory reboots should be optional. I understand it helps people feel just that much better, cool. If a device needs to be rebooted often - is this fixing anything?

I agree. If a device needs regular reboots to fix its problems then there is something wrong with the device that the sellers should address not the device owners!

Nothing wrong with it as a problem-solving step. If things are going well, then there’s no need to reboot.

I don’t reboot my computers as often as other things – TVs only when there is a system web view – I’ve had issues in the past where things were a bit slow, so it’s been a habit when those come through.

Linux? MacOS? Well, if I won’t be using it for a while, it gets powered down so it doesn’t kill the battery… so yeah, that would be about a once a week “reboot”.

RN, I think there’s something in Tablo’s android versions where after a couple hours it gets so slow I can’t do anything with it. 3 different devices (Android/Google/Fire) have all had this issue over the last couple days. Every other app works fine, but I have to force-quit the Tablo app to be able to use it again.

Lenlabnj: You’ve already said this didn’t solve your problem – something deeper seems to be going on. Maybe I’m ridiculous for suggesting rebooting the stick and the Tablo… but it certainly didn’t hurt to try to problem solve from a fresh boot.

Well, that’s two positive responses I’ve heard about 8.500! I’ve been holding off on getting the Table Gen. 4 - hoping the FW updates help in eliminating the “crashes” with Roku devices. I have two TCL TV’s, and another Roku Express, and will need to add a fourth - probably an Ultra. In the meantime, I tried an AirTV 2, but found the performance lacking. Even though it picked up several more channels than my TCL TV tuner, only about 5 were usable - obviously a weaker tuner than I hoped. I did come to the conclusion that an improved antenna system was needed. I’m finding the biggest issue I have is with VHF-Hi channels. Most of the UHF channels are solid enough to work with on my current antenna, and have no available VHF-Lo to worry about. Current antenna obviously was designed for optimal UHF reception - doesn’t have the longer elements necessary for VHF. Bought a Channel Master setup that I hope will improve things on VHF-Hi and has better gain spec’s on UHF than my current one, but probably won’t get around to doing rooftop work until things warm up here. MN winters not the best time for working on a steel roof, albeit, a mighty mild winter so far! My primary issue is distributing my available local channels over my LAN, to my other outbuildings. I stream consistently on the TV in my furthest building, and have several WiFi devices connected throughout - PC’s, VOiP, video and temp monitoring, etc., all work consistently, and just hoping to add that last little feature - local TV coverage, to as many of my other locations as possible, Sure beats installing antennas on each building. Since Tablo Gen 4 seems to be the best approach to that, wanting to see positive experiences with Roku devices, based on the latest FW release. So far, sounds like they’ve made some improvements!

I looked into AirTV2, would be nice to have OTA and Sling integrated guide, but reviews talked me out of it.

I thought the same thing, since I’m a Sling subscriber! Unfortunately, I can only assume the internal tuner on the AirTV 2 unit is not up-to-par, or at least, not as good as my TV tuner was. I tried it direct antenna to AirTV 2 unit, and through a splitter to both AirTV and TV - not much difference. It did pick up far more stations on a scan than my TV did, just most were unwatchable. Maybe got 7 channels usable on AirTV vs 17 - 18 usable on my TV directly. Oh well, c’mon Tablo, do me good!

I had problems with my Roku 4K box with the 4th generation Tablo 2-tuner unit crashing. The latest update seems to have fixed the problem. I’m only using the unit through wifi that is 30ft from the router on another floor of the house. Haven’t had any issues with the wifi so far. So you might be okay. I’m 30 miles west of the OTA broadcast towers. Chicagoland suburb. I have a roof mounted antenna and the Tablo got almost the same amount of channels as my Samsung TV did. All the major channels so my wife and I are happy.
I bet it will meet your needs and heck reason to go buy a newer Roku box if need be.
