What about replacing (saturated) drives?

We’ve never 100% banned anyone. We have handed out a very small number of shorter ‘time outs’ to folks who couldn’t seem to behave in a civil manner.

Would they get a Banned Badge? Or Hammered?

I think society as a whole is losing the ability to effectively communicate. I have worked for years in the customer service industries - and far too often the customer forgets that a real person is on the other end of the conversation.

That doesn’t mean the customer doesn’t get frustrated, or believe that they are getting the short end of the stick - but to solve problems, often you have to communicate to solve that problem.

I have quite a few stories…

Sounds like you should start a blog of customer service stories.

Share some with us in this thread, might add some value to it…

Stories…

One person called the support line, and said that she had relocated the computer to the back porch, and covered it with plastic and wanted to know if there was any way her kids could get a virus from the computer…

One person was wanting to return a 10-year old computer, because it was (explicative) that a computer would be outdated in only 10 years (it was an IBM-8086 purchased in 1986, and this was in 1986) - not only that, they wanted the difference in price refunded… They paid around $4,000 for the computer then, and the new stuff was around $1,500…

Many customers demanded for the service department to visit their home because the computer was too complex to disassemble, and too heavy to bring in. And they wanted service “now” (even though the wait time was around 3-4 business days at the time).

And my favorite - a person was demanding damages because they purchased a UPS during a power outage and they couldn’t power up their computer with it. It was tax day and they couldn’t file their taxes…

There were many more…

We’re getting off track here. Can we get back to the saturated drive issue and whether this is a problem in Tablo’s design… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I thought we had already been through that.

It’s not a problem with tablo’s design.

It’s a feature that they may or may not want to address in the future.

Hmm. Newly created account. New name for @Displeased?

There are multiple solutions to full drives. Swapping alternate drives isn’t one of them.

Perhaps you might take into consideration that, just because my posts were deemed inappropriate, doesn’t actually make them innapropriate!
…since, in reality, they weren’t inappropriate!
There is supposed to be a certain level of fairness and freedom to discuss the product here, is there not?
There was nothing stated on my end that was offensive to anyone, UNTIL I was attacked, because the general consensus here is to defend the product, no matter what! At that point ONLY did I defend myself (which is completely appropriate under the circumstances)!
…and I was more diplomatic than the people that “flagged” my posts (innapropriately)!
This went beyond the inability to discuss my experiences with the product.
It restricted my freedom of speech, which (just in case you may have forgotten) is a far more serious offense than some people’s (extremely defensive) opinions, who very likely work for the company and are planted here for this very purpose (to staunchly protect the product)!
There’s no real “wow” (in terms of the so called “record” you alluded to), if you take into (serious) consideration that the vast majority of those posts didn’t deserve to be “flagged” (nor removed) in the first place!
This was spite-work! Pure and simple!
My conclusion that (at least some) of these “contributors” are actual staff members is based upon the extreme level of defensiveness of this (flawed) product (and perhaps their general narrow-mindedness)!
Additionally, when I was discussing other issues with the product, which were completely unrelated to my initial complaint (sorry, I realized that you can’t complain here, only compliment!), those (multiple) issues went completely ignored, so that they could continue to berate me regarding my initial problem (as the primary goal was to prevent me from posting here altogether, as it’s bad for their companies reputation)!
I thought that this was going to be a fair and reasonable exchange of opinions. Some of the “contributor’s” here even had something constructive to share…but the more that I persisted, the more that I was attacked!
Yet my posts were “flagged”! What a joke!
There is far too much bias here!
The basic attitude here remains “it is what it is and that’s what it is”! That solves absolutely nothing!..and therefore, this company will continue to have a considerable lack of caring for their customers needs and requirements from the product (which is clearly evident from their ridiculously limited hours of support operation, zero support on weekends and slow responses to e-mail)!
My needs/requirements are definitely not excessive or unreasonable, as they have existed with other (similar) products for many years (and should be considered essential functions)!
I came here for help and all that I (basically) got was “sorry, either accept it the way it is.or use something else”! One (very helpful) individual’s solution was to simply “move on” (to something else)! I hope that the company pays you well!
If that were to be the general philosophy/attitude of manufacturer’s, nothing would ever function properly!
Sub-standard products would be the norm!
That’s the complete opposite of what the philosophy/attitude of this company should be!
So, in essence, this isn’t really a forum (in the true sense of the word). It’s a wall of disregard that appears to exist as an opportunity to help promote the product (by defending it to the point of ridiculousness)!
“How nice, they have a “community” where users can openly discuss issues about the product”.
“How clever and considerate of them”!
What a comforting feeling when purchasing a product as a new customer!..Not exactly!
That might be the case if their intention wasn’t to make you feel like an outcast and an idiot if you dare complain about the product!

While customers have the freedom to say exactly what they think on this forum, they are not free from the consequences of that speech.

Here those consequences include fellow forum members flagging posts when they feel the content is not constructive or appropriate.

We have received lots of feedback over the years, both positive and negative, via this forum. We encourage it because it helps us make a better product.

Other users have asked for the ability to support multiple drives in the past. As it was pointed out, this is not a supported use case at this time but there are alternatives that can be employed.

As this thread (and others before it) have pointed those alternatives out, and nothing good seems to be coming from this one, I am going to lock this thread.

Finally, let me be clear that the only people who are paid to post on this forum regularly are myself and @TabloSupport and we do this as part of our regular duties as employees of this company. From time-to-time our engineering staff or CEO will chime in as well, but they do so via their official handles.

It might be a good idea to lock this thread and have @Displeased start a new one on this same topic. Reintroduce the subject and the rest of us proceed in the new thread with a civil tone, open minded, and in the spirit of a rational discourse. A second chance to discuss this issue reasonably without any heat…

It’s over a year old, creations wise…

Well, no, as with it’s current design. But there is a possibility the entire thing could be overhauled to accommodate drive swapping, signal strength meters, re-ordering channels in the guide, add channels manually at will, live creations of FF thumbnails, user/pass for tablo connect and of course, ability to access across platforms with out the need for internet access – watch free OTA with out having to pay for internet access to watch your recordings. :poop:

What’s weird is that answers were given. But the answers were deemed “unacceptable”, calling it too “complicated”, “a design flaw”, something “not taken into consideration”, “major mistake”, feature exists on all DVRs even those from “20+ years ago”, Tablo “makes no sense”. Further posts introduced, “crazy” to not have the feature, more claims of “design flaws”, feature (again) in “every DVR since the inception of DVR’s”. Continuing, “clearly a mistake in the design”, Tablo needs to “fix the basics”, commercial skip deemed a “flawed” and “disappointing” feature that gets “worse with each update”. And more, suggests that Tablo community be more “open-minded” about the feature, claims feature has been “ignored” and not made a “priority” and that most people are going to face the loss of “hours and hours of recordings”, and hope that more will actively “complain about this” and claims that Nuvyyo/Tablo needs to accept that they made a “mistake” in the current design for not including the feature and calls that “nonsense”.

Where people were allowed to interject, early on, most posts were really really trying to be helpful.

More response, feature of handling multiple drives is “DVR 101”, “anything less is unacceptable”, “no defending them” with regards to not having the feature, “design screw-up… Plain and simple”, Tablo folks “have chosen to ignore it” (the problem).

Anyway, the thread starts to really degenerate from there, but oddly, does still go on and on and on…

“Displeased”… is … well… Displeased. And I think the person has more than made their point with regards to their dissatisfaction regarding multiple drive handling. Answers were given. In general, they were given in the spirit of trying to “help” at least understand the current feature set of the Tablo.

Is this the rule of “is too” / “is not” “is too” / “is not” “is too” / “is not” “is too” / “is not” ?

is too …in the reality of, many others? If you believe everyone else is wrong, that’s your reality.

Your very first post set the tone with terms - “This is beyond ludicrous!”, " Is this crazy or what??“, " This option should’ve existed from day one!”

You were offered clarification and even an option to do what you wanted to do - What about replacing (saturated) drives? - #10 by Steve427

You offered no discussion - only disappointment.

Please to note: this is not an open forum for “freedom of speech” it’s a privately owned forum with rules and restrictions. If you want to exercise your freedom there are places to say what ever you want.

Your defense is full of offensive insults… either you don’t get it or this is just how you interact with others regularly …

Ok Boomer! those many years are behind us.

Seriously? Back to your first post… it was mostly just a rant - how it’s not what you want – not help me work through this. Because when you were offered assistance, you bashed others because it wasn’t what you wanted, again. You were offered help!

Tell you what, first read both topics they’ve ever started https://community.tablotv.com/u/displeased/activity/topics and see if there’s any thing in common with any/every post they make… or is it really everyone else?

I stated my case…and had every right imaginable to be “displeased” with the product!
It’s blatantly obvious that the majority of contributors (aka, employees of Nuvyyo) feel that this device is far too perfect to ever be criticized!
To add insult to injury, you continue to insult me and be abusive to me!
All intended to have me lose my patience and quit this one-sided little game! Success!
That’s because you not only have all of the answers…but there’s a strong desire to lash out at someone that actually speaks their mind, brings the truth about this product out into the light of day and isn’t willing to fall victim to this ever present “take it or leave it” narrow-minded attitude that seems to prevail here!
It’s been fun while it lasted!
Enjoy the Canadian fall and winter! Bye!

I have, more than once “complained” about issues I have with my tablo.

Some, I now understand why, doesn’t make me happy about it… or suggest things couldn’t be different. But understanding bigger picture, you know why a small thing isn’t really small.

Other issues, that’s how it is - by design, I suppose. I can begrudgingly accept it… knowing it’s not like anything is going to change, or find some work-ahrounds to make it work for me.

Or… I could shop the market. Noteing OTA DVRs aren’t a 1:1 comparison.

Forgot, the road less traveled, I could have a big fussy-fit knowing everyone else is wrong, it’ would be my mission to get through to them so they understand.

This community allows and even encourages criticism of the Tablo. I think almost every one here has pointed out issues with the Tablo at some point. (I know I have been critical many times)

It is when a poster gets obsessive about a topic and just won’t shut up about it (especially calling a particular issue “essential” when it is barely mentioned by anyone) when the community turns.

I wonder if his Twitter handle is @realDonaldTrump
