Watching live TV intermittently freezes for a second then resumes

I’m using Tablo 4th Gen Tuner via 32 GB AppleTV (application is 1.8.6 (39)-beta.3) with a Televes DiNova Boss Antenna connected to my WiFi network (Google WiFi system). While watching live TV the broadcast intermittently pauses for a few seconds (no pixelation) then resumes where it paused at. This happens randomly every 15 seconds or so. I’ve had this issue for over a year and have not figured a resolution. I’m considering ditching Tablo and just running a cable directly from my antenna on my roof to my TV, but was wondering if anyone experienced a similar issue and figured out a fix. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

And why would someone still be running beta software when 1.9.0 and 1.9.1 have been released.

I didn’t know. I uninstalled and installed 1.9.2 and it still freezes. But thanks for the suggestion

Other than updating the app, what else have you done?
Are you also running your Tablo on wifi or Ethernet?
Do you have fiber Internet and does your router fully support such speeds?
What are the specs on your ATV?

I would check my network devices to ensure they’re running the fastest possible wifi protocol (Wifi6 or 7). Anything wired should use a Cat6 cable (even though most wired devices like the Tablo and many streaming devices only run at 10/100 mbps).

By the way, I’m starting to see this intermittently on our Wifi6-connected Roku Ultra 4850. Our Fire Stick is still okay.

At least with an official release you can open a ticket.

So far, I’ve tried deleting all unused apps on my Apple TV to free up any memory and rebooting it. I’ve also reserved static IPs to the Tablo and Apple TV to reduce DHCP-related delays. I have an Apple TV 4K (1st Gen, A1842), 32 GB and have fiber internet. My WiFi router is on Wi-Fi 5. I’ve tested connecting the antenna directly to a TV via a coax cable and noticed the freezing doesn’t occur. I also tested the Tablo using the Tablo apps on different smart TVs and noticed that there is still intermittent freezing. Due to the location of my antenna, I cannot connect it directly to my main WiFi router. I can only connect it to a meshpoint via an Ethernet cable. I think this might be the culprit. I think I might try powerline ethernet adapter to bridge the gap from my Tablo to my router. If that doesn’t work, maybe I need to upgrade to a better WiFi nest system.

You mentioned another great idea - testing other apps to see if it’s persistent behavior. You shouldn’t have video freezing with an antenna that’s directly connected to the TV.

Even if you get a 50’ Ethernet cable, you could test it temporarily on the Tablo (if your S.O. doesn’t care about the cable stretching from room to room across the floor).

Your ATV has gigabit Ethernet but only Wifi5. That’s not bad for a 2017 model.

Sounds like you’re looking at the right things, though. Let us know how it goes but only change one thing at a time.
