Video stopping/starting and out of sync with audio

Just tried to watch Shark Tank recorded last night and the video kept pausing for a few milliseconds and continuing, while the audio kept going. Eventually, it was way off and unwatchable, as you can see in the attached video.

We haven’t had any problems with anything up to this point. Recorded on ABC in DFW area 9:01pm-10:00pm.

Does this happen on your mobile devices too?

I seem to remember someone else having a similar and persistent problem some time ago, and I thought they were in DFW. Curious…

Hi @wysiwyggin ,

This article may provide some answers: How to Troubleshoot Audio/Visual (A/V) Sync Issues – Tablo

I have had some problems in the past with some recordings, It starts with the Video/Audio out of sync, will play on for a few minutes and then it will stop making it unable to watch the recording, Just this week it happened to one of the recordings on my Tablo HDMI version, I always thought the problem was from the channel station having some problems but now that I have the 4th generation that am using it as a back up, I went to check that recording and it played fine.

That’s a great question. When I checked just now, the video skipping wasn’t present on my phone, but the audio/video out-of-sync was present on my phone. Also of note, at 02:30 into the video, the sound cut out completely.

I have a signal meter and it typically reads around 90%. However, this is a high VHF channel so my antenna may be struggling on this particular broadcast. I’ll probably check this particular channel again - we haven’t seen this behavior yet on any other channel.

Thanks for the feedback. I typically have the same recordings on my OG Legacy, but I didn’t duplicate this particular program. And, it’s not airing again in the next 2 weeks so I can’t reschedule it until it’s available. I’ll keep an eye out for it and set it to record on my Legacy unit once it’s available.

Does the recording eventually stops after a few minutes on it’s on with just a spinning wheel on the screen? because that’s what usually happens to me when I have this problem using my HDMI Tablo version, thumbnails appear and even the commercial skip feature gets applied but the video just won’t play, only at the beginning like 2 minutes or 3 and then the recording becomes useless

Thanks. Leaves are raining down today so I have today’s daytime priority all planned out. I’ll check the signal strength later and look for another ABC (VHF ch8) show to record to see if it also exhibits the same issue.

Sorry if I didn’t mention - this is the Gen4 device. I’ve set up 20/20 to record this evening on both my OG Legacy and Gen4 devices, so we’ll see how it goes. It recorded the entire 1-hour Shark Tank episode with out-of-sync video/audio up to 02:30, then no audio at all. Thanks for the feedback.

So the recording still plays but just the audio, hmm i have not seen that happening to mine

Just a suggestion but how 'bout KFAA 8.8? It’s the same station on UHF RF30.

Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll check it out.

I recorded some prime-time shows from our 8.1 ABC station and they appear to be okay. It could’ve just been a one-time occurrence. Set the the 2 pre-CMA shows and the CMA’s to record on ABC, so we’ll see if it happens again.

Doesn’t 8.8 say it’s in Decatur? That’d be 180º from where my antenna currently points. Although when I look at the RabbitEars.info data, it show the physical location of the station as being in Cedar Hill. Interesting.

That indicates area of service from whence FCC license paperwork gets confused. All full power TV stations in DFW are at an antenna farm in DeSoto/Cedar Hill.

TV studios are all over the Metroplex; downtown Dallas (WFAA 8 ABC), Irving/Las Colinas (KDFW Fox 4), south of DFW airport (KXAS NBC 5), I30 east of downtown Ft Worth (KTVT CBS 11).

Lots of Spanish language stations in downtown Dallas and KERA 13 PBS. The largest owner/operator in the US is Nexstar in Irving/Las Colinas (KDAF CW 33).

AND everybody has a sister station:
Channel 4 and 27
Channel 8 and 29
Channel 11 and 21
One group (HC2) has 6 stations.
Low power stations (LPTV) are abundant and all over the area. Nexstar is in the process of buying the owner of WFAA - Tegna.

All together there are 41 licensed stations broadcasting over 160 channels. That’s even with several stations being offline. Also ATSC 3.0 Nextgen TV is available on 3 stations.

Sorry… Distracted by something sparkling.

My location is Midway Road and Northwest Highway as reflected in the report. Precise coordinates are masked…

I chose a 140 mile radius to get an idea of any co-interference.

Are you sorry you asked? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I had to chuckle as I don’t often see De Soto references. Before today I did actually know there is a DeSoto, Texas, it’s just not the De Soto I live in, totally different state.

Groovy :+1:

When I was a kid our neighbor drove a DeSoto!
