Video Freezes while playing a recording

Since we started recording (4th Gen) we have encountered a problem with the playback on a lot of them. The video freezes and the audio continues. It doesn’t matter what you attempt to do: ff, rewind, pause, move thumbnail in any way - the moment you touch something on the remote it jumps to the end of the recording! I have begun to pay attention and keep track of exactly where we are every time I ff through a commercial. It’s a pain :face_with_spiral_eyes:. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone working on the problem? We have a TCL Roku TV. I just saw a couple posts that are similar, but I don’t see any fix in the works.

Do you use an external drive for your 4th Generation Tablo? If so, it may be viable to disconnect and then reconned it, just to verify there’s not a loose connection or cable issue.

If that fails, consider reaching out to our technical support team: https://tablotv.com/support/#contact . They should be able to help.

No. We stopped using an external drive when we went from Legacy to 4th Gen.

We have the same exact issue with a Tablo Gen 4 and TCL/Roku tv. No external drive is being used. TV signal is 4 green dots on all channels.

Back in April I submitted a post about this problem including the following:

I’ve also observed the exact problem you mentioned regarding the picture freezing with the sound continuing and the status bar at the end of the show. In my case the sound eventually also stops after a couple minutes. This occurs on my TCL Roku TV (TCL model 32S327 using Roku model 8116X ). When I place a Roku Streaming Stick+ (model 3810RW or 3810X) into an HDMI connector on that same TV, and switch the TV input to the stick, the problem disappears. I have another TV that isn’t a TCL Roku TV. When I use a Roku stick on that TV the problem doesn’t exist.

This has occurred on all Roku software versions (since at least April) through 14.0.4 (and app version 0.8.801 - 734366). This seems to be specific to TCL Roku TVs. Once a recording is found that has this problem it always occurs at the exact same point in the program during multiple replays. It is not an intermittent condition. It may originally occur when specific signal conditions occur (possibly transient weaker signal glitches), even though the scan shows four green dots. I believe I’ve also had it occur on live programs, though not as commonly (although I don’t watch live programs much, but instead watch the program recordings later).

It’s strange. I have not contacted support yet. Have you? Or do those of us who have TCL Roku TVs have to live with it ? I have not waited long enough for the audio to stop. I have started it over from the beginning, or from the end and moved to where the video froze. What I have experienced is that when the video freezes, if you attempt to move forward or backward it jumps to the end when I touch either “arrow”. I know I have said this, but I have begun to pay attention to where the recording is (minutes) so I can easily get back close to where it froze.

I have 1 Roku TCL tv and DONT have this issue. I also have 4 Phillips Roku Tvs without this issue too.

I know what you mean. When it freezes, and you try to move forward or backward the status bar is moved to the end. You then have to rewind to the point where the freeze occurred, to which you have to guess. This is especially annoying when watching a football game and you have to rewind without noticing the score, so you don’t know how the game turns out before you watch the action.

Maybe this should be on the Roku or TCL support forum, if they exist (I’ve viewed the Roku forum but not actively).

Is this confirmed? I’l gladly get a Roku streaming stick for my Roku TV just to run TabloTV if this is a confirmed fix.

Well, all I know is that with the two, rather old, streaming stick+ models mentioned above, and running Roku OS software version 14.0.4, Tablo App version 0.8.801, and Tablo firmware version 2.2.52, this problem no longer occurs for me.
