I know it’s been asked for before, but has there been any progress on any type of Trash Bin or Un-Delete feature for the Gen4 Tablos??
I don’t do it often, but just now deleted program “A” when I thought I was deleting “B”…and it just seems like there could be Trash Bin folder added below the Conflicts and Failures icons..
Even if it automatically emptied itself in a day or week would be fine..
Just something to be able to quickly correct those “Oops” moments, would be helpful to many, I’m sure… I’ll live, but still… :-/
Thanks..
I’ve been asking for that as well. I am surprised how many DVRs do not have that feature. My old DirecTIVO had it. It was incredibly useful.
Right??? Not that it would be needed often… BUT, when you ~do~ need it, as you said, it would be ~incredibly~ useful…
The details of how and when programs in the Deleted Folder would actually get deleted from the drive can be debated, but I just don’t get why adding the capability seems so hard to do…
My now obsolete Windows OS does it.. Apple OS has it…
Most importantly for Tablo, Linux has it… Yet here we are… :-/
Agree it would be a very useful feature! However, every client OS app/UI would have to be touched and the backend database would need to be modified to include a deleted flag of some kind. Maybe this a contributor as to why Tablo hasn’t tackled this yet.
Tell me how this works for those users that only use internal storage. Tablo already ensures that based on the number of tuners a certain amount of storage is reserved for recordings. How much more space will this eat.
You might be overthinking it, zippy…
First, I’d guess it would use no more space than if you never deleted that specific recording in the first place…
Secondly, you could still “delete” delete them, whenever you choose to empty your trash…or it could be done automatically on a FIFO basis if your drive is filling up…
Just like recordings are now, if you fill up your drive…
And if you’re not using an external drive, I’d be shocked if you didn’t…
All that said, I never imagined it as a secondary storage area on your hard drive, but more a holding pen for even just 24 hours, just to make sure you actually want gone the items you just deleted…
Like I said, sometimes deletion mistakes happen, and if it happens to you some day, I promise you you’ll go, “Oh crap… Why don’t they have a Trash Can feature?? Dang it!..”
Just sayin…
Also, it could be that a Recycle Bin is only available if >= 1 TB drive is installed. If none, then no Recycle Bin.
How big is it and where do auto-delete files go. And since I don’t want it I assume it’s a configuration option.
Or just expand the already in place “auto-delete recordings”. It could be “now” or at nightly maintenance cycle. The ‘flag’ or ‘switch’ already exists.
I think we’re looking for a “safety” to not delete immediately unless you say immediately. That way I could change my mind after a few minutes.

So what you are saying is that if you forget to turn on protect airing you are screwed by auto-delete. But if you are dumb enough to confirm a manual delete you are saved. Makes sense.
Exactly. Well said. Thanks.
No what I’m saying is instead of deleting the recording you schedule the deletion to the over night process.
It doesn’t take anymore space as it already has. And I can change my mind after I mark it for deletion.
I think many can agree that this would be a good feature to have - it’s up to the developer to develop requirements and make it happen.
