Two external drives

When I purchased my tablo, I formatted two different 1TB external drives. I’ve almost filled one. Can I swap it out for the other drive and save the one that is full without losing anything on it? If so, is there anything I need to do other then just unplug it?

Thanks for any help or advise you can give me.

You can unplug the old HDD and plug in a new empty drive.

However, the recordings on the old drive will still show up in all Tablo interfaces. If you try to play them they won’t play of course because they are on a HDD that is not connected to the Tablo. The database of all the recordings is hosted on the Tablo itself which is why you won’t lose the listing of recordings.

Why not just export some recordings to free up space? Check out Jestep’s Tablo Exporter. It works well. You can just use Plex to watch these recordings on your playback device.

I suggest upgrading to a 5 TB drive since they are now supported. It is possible to copy your recordings from the 1 TB drive to the 5 TB drive, but not official.

If we export the native stream, can Plex play it with closed captioning?
