This seems new... Gen 4 'all shows'

Gen 4. When I look at ‘All’ recorded shows, not only does it show me those, but also has a placeholder for every show in my list of shows to record, even if there is no show upcoming. It’s a pita to scroll thru all shows, just to find my recorded ones. I don’t remember it being like that before… did I maybe hit some sort of setting by accident?

It’s been like this on my AppleTV for months. It is so annoying. I don’t think there is any way to change it, but hopefully they will eventually give us the option.

Thanks. Guess maybe I didn’t have enough shows set up to notice all the ‘blank’ ones before. It’s just such a buggy piece of software, one would think they could have fixed most of it by now. Not really a lot of options to switch to.

They used to have a “Scheduled” tab where you were able to access all of your shows – upcoming or not.

When they changed the layout to the left side of the screen they removed this feature and we had no way to delete a show that was not upcoming. In the 2.2.54 firmware update (2.2.53 beta as well) they combined upcoming and currently recording into every section.

Yes, it is exceptionally annoying. I hope they incorporate something like the “Scheduled” tab again so we can have a clean layout of what we have recorded.

Each version of the app has it’s own layout and different way of working. The Roku app still has the old layout and Scheduled tab, as well as an easier way to find shows/movies that are upcoming. I guess what I’m saying here at the end is that things don’t stay the same forever and they’ll likely find a different way to deal with this in the future.

I am curious which streaming platform you are using.

My house is all Roku except for one ONN. On all my setups I still have the horizontal menu across the top so I haven’t yet seen the left-side menu. On mine, when I go to the library, ALL only shows programs with current recordings. Regardless, I usually scroll down to TV SHOWS so it is not cluttered with movies or sports. Is this an option with the left-side menu?

I’m surprised that you don’t have the left-side menu on your onn box. Which version are you on? 1.4 is the current android/fire version. I wonder if you have automatic updates shut off. I would try using the voice control and telling the system to “Open Play Store” to check for updates (it’s the only way to use that app now – very annoying). Otherwise, guess you could try the usual force quit cache/data clear, reinstall, etc. Are you on the latest 2.2.54 firmware?

Even in Library > TV Shows … there is a mix of recordings and scheduled series, same with the Movies tab.

I agree that the new TV platform menu could include this since there is an ‘All Recordings’ menu on both Android and iOS mobile app platform menus, and the version 1.4 Samsung TV platform menu. So the feature still exists, and they really need to include it (bring it back) on the new TV platform menu.

I will have to check. It would not surprise me. I got the ONN during the whole OS14 debacle when I only had two functioning Roku. I may have turned off updates on the ONN out of concern that an update would break that one, too. I will check and report back.

I wonder if they are holding off on pushing out this new layout to Roku users out of concern for creating some new problem for their largest user base.

There was a time when all three major devices (Roku, Android, AppleTV) looked completely different from one another. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that they have multiple teams working on separate projects and very little communication between them. Or, which is more likely, Tablo has no idea where they’re headed with the UI/UX and we’re all just guinea pigs! I’m hoping that they are taking feedback from each version and will eventually come up with something consistent across all platforms. But for now, I do enjoy that they have their differences – each one has something major that it does better than the others.

Also remember that Roku, Android, and Apple TV all run completely different OS’s. That means different programming rules and feature availability. Even if the core programming language is the same, generating it for the different OS’s may not always work without some additional tweaking.
