This next build brings major changes

This one’s taking a bit longer than usual as we’re testing the SmartSync feature. Since it takes 11 days for a full sync to be triggered we need to go a bit past that for a full test.

We’re still on track for July delivery.

That’s hysterical. You mean that when all the hardware and software companies made the various fixes to correct the Y2K timer issues they had to wait until December 31st 1999 at midnight to test those fixes? That’s why state of the art computers allow for manually setting the date and time.

Lol I’m sure that’s not all they’re waiting for, beta testing takes time. If they release too early, people will fault them for all the bugs. No win-win situation.

@zippy Yep. I agree with @theuser86. They have been pushing out new beta builds pretty quickly as they fix issues. They are actively working on the release.

@zippy - Since we have such a large amount of clients and the date/time is set by the client, not the Tablo, resetting the date won’t provide the most accurate test results.

I like my tablo and find most of it’s problems somewhat amusing.

But I did spend 42 years as a senior system analyst in the R&D divisions of major software development companies. Many years designing and implementing operating systems and then database software.

The client/server time mapping that is described is nothing new to the computer business. And everyone has worked around this before. If this feature had 10 testable items and tablo used 10 tablos to test these items and only 5 passed. Would it take 11 more days before the 5 fixes and the original 10 testable items are retested. And if these changes uncovered additional areas of concern then needed to be addressed.

Opps.

@zippy - your comments sound dead on except you are ignoring your observation. Tablo isn’t a major software development company and unfortunately has limited development resources.

Agreed. That is why many of us try to be patient with them knowing they are a very small company with limited resources. I love their products and want to see them succeed.

Login with password - is this still on the list?
I noticed in the email I got they are still working on a feature to allow me to download shows, and that’s great, but no mention of being able to login with a password rather than this bizarre pairing we have to do with Tablo Connect, which incidentally kicks you off regularly. Is this feature, which would seem easy to do since pretty much everything else on the internet works that way, still on the Tablo To Do list?

After 42 years in various R&D organization I more then appreciate tablos development challenges. I always argue for new features that will attract new customers versus beating the bulk delete issue to death.

But whether or not tablo uses the waterfall, agile, or some other development process, at times you have to craft in some special hooks so it doesn’t take 11 days to test a feature.

And as tablo support indicated time is controlled by the client. Of course my family owns an 80 acre farm that crosses the county boundaries of perry and crawford indiana. The main house has a roku and tablo and is in the county of perry. The visitors house has a roku and is 120 yards away in crawford county. Crawford is on EDT while Perry is on CDT.

@JohninCT - Yes! That’s still on the to-do list!

I’m in the second group for the beta and have seen NOTHING yet. Nothing for firmware on Tablo, or Android phone or Roku. IF I go to beta website either using the browser on the phone or computer, I CAN bulk delete and it works great. I would have liked to been on the testing of the background sync on the Android phone.

Hey guys - it’s August. Thought this release wood b out in July…

It was pushed back until August,

This Monday is a Canadian holiday, so @TabloSupport won’t be back to work until Tuesday. There are still a few issues to fix. It’s not a good idea to push out a new release on a long weekend. I think (based on nothing) that it will be out on or before August 15.

Questions:

  1. Will Tablo be able to support 2 concurrent hard drives with this new build?
While it’s awesome that it will support a larger HD, I have a ton of recordings on an almost-full 2 TB HD. Can I simply buy a 5 TB and plug it into the nearby USB port and then will both work?
If no, then how do I transfer what I have on the 2 TB drive onto a newer, larger drive? Is this something I can do via a PC?

  2. How come every time I end up needing to reset my Wi-Fi router do I then have to reboot Tablo afterwards so that it can rejoin the network. In the 15 years that I’ve been using Wi-Fi, I have never owned a piece of equipment (ever) that required me to restart it after a router reboot. This needs to be fixed…PLEASE!

  1. No, it will not support 2 concurrent hard drives. If you do a search here on the forum, there are some ways that users have cloned their small drives onto larger drives.

  2. That is definitely not normal. I have rebooted/reset my router plenty of times since I owned the Tablo, and I never had to reboot it afterwards. Is your Tablo assigned a dedicated IP address on your router? If not, that might be the reason.
