The Tablo box is DEAD!

Very disappointed with this product. I have had this product for less than 1 year and the electronics has failed already. Completely dead. I am an electrical engineer, so I connected a bench power supply to it to see what was going on. I set the power supply to 12.0 VDC and the max current limit to 2.0 A. When powered on the Tablo pulled the power down 1.75 Volts. Something on the board is shorted out and pulling the power down to near zero. I have seen many poor reviews of this product. Unfortunately, there are not many choices for products of this type that work with the Samsung Smart TV. Tablo, what can you do for me???

Good news, bad news…

Tablo is VERY good about supporting their warranty. Give them a call. They will replace it.

The bad news is that you cannot port any recordings from your old device to the new device, even if you have an external drive.

I am NOT an electrical engineer, but I understand the basics. A number of people here who have had failures found it to be a single capacitor that failed. I had one burn out at just over a year. Tablo replaced it and did not want it back, so I gave it to a buddy of mine who is better with electronics than I am. He confirmed the bad capacitor, but hasn’t gotten around to replacing it.

Someone like you could probably determine if that was your problem and replace that capacitor… if you wanted to salvage your recordings.
