The ADTH box looks horrible so far. Tablo doesn’t appear to have anything to worry about from them.
Actually, since they come with built-in HDCP defeat, saves you the cost of a part from Wal*Mart.
Folks, frame grabbing may be our “only way” of regaining our freedom with regards to ATSC 3.0.
It is not even a DVR but might be OK for the kitchen TV or something low use like that. HDHR and Zapperbox seem to be the main competition and both should have DRM working soon they are saying. I can watch and record 2 of my locals ATSC 3 now, just need the DRM stuff to view the other 2.
I thought that but figured they might fix it at some point. The thing looked like it was working so poorly in the video I’m not sure I’d buy it if that was a guaranteed feature.
A real shame given the price. I don’t see it as a realistic option when full featured devices aren’t much more. L̶o̶n̶ g̶o̶t̶ t̶h̶e̶ e̶a̶r̶l̶y̶ b̶i̶r̶d̶ s̶p̶e̶c̶i̶a̶l̶ I̶ b̶e̶l̶i̶e̶v̶e̶ a̶n̶d̶ I̶ t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ i̶t̶’s̶ s̶u̶p̶p̶o̶s̶e̶d̶ t̶o̶ r̶e̶t̶a̶i̶l̶ a̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ $̶1̶3̶0̶. I guess they reduced the price from what early marketing said. It’s $89 + $15 shipping now. (Delivery In 1 month and 24 days)
Unlike ATSC 1.0, which was forced and subsidized by the government in the form of “cheap” (and in some cases free) tuners, nothing like that this time around.
Yet, in a way, it is being coerced. That is, the FCC/govt is setting up a no win scenario unless stations go NextgenTV. This will go down in history, at least for me, much like Betama (VHS) recording, the Bluray decision, Aereo, etc. Something of great concern, that maybe people don’t talk about, but should talk about.
The rate things are going I may very well watch even less TV in the future. As it is TV is often relegated to something playing in the background for me. Perhaps less tube time a good thing!
