I noticed there are three options for the Tablo subscription (1) $4.99/monthly. (2) $49.99 annually (3) Lifetime for $150.
I guess since Tablo is fairly new to market I’m hesitant to plunk down for the lifetime but wondered if by chance I purchase an annual subscription and after my one year could I roll that into a lifetime with some credit going towards the price? Asking consumers to take the leap of faith that Tablo will still be around in 3 years for $150 is a little much, (I hope they are I love the product) but we all know how other companies have fared in this market.
Just wondering if there are any thoughts to letting folks roll an annual subscription into a lifetime option? Somewhat a 1 year trial period to make up your mind and Tablo still makes revenue.
I second this initiative. I love my Tablo, I have already gotten 2 other people to buy one. I have already purchased the 1 year subscription but it would be a sign of good faith towards loyal customers to let them purchase the lifetime sub at a discount in a year’s time.
I received an email response today from Tablo support who advised:
" Unfortunately, there is no available discount like you describe.
Part of the reason why we offer a discount at the lifetime level is because these people are betting on the future of this company. It’s more than likely that they’ll get the best deal out of it as we plan to be around for a long time, but you’re right there is a small chance that something unforeseen could happen
We hope that you’ll be willing to join the many others who’ve chosen a lifetime subscription, but if you don’t feel ready to make that commitment the monthly and yearly options are there for you".
I did point out to support that as a Tablo owner (2 tuner) I have already made an investment and obviously betting on its success since I could be stuck with a $225 brick with no support.
I simply think it should be an option for Tablo to allow a customer who has been with Tablo for 12 months to roll into a lifetime option and not have to pay an additional $150 or whatever the going rate is after one year. Possibly get it at a pro-rated amount.
I like my tablo but bought it off eBay and paid 10 less than a new one and didn’t even get the 30 days and I went ahead and bought the lifetime I am very happy with the service the only thing that would make it better is being able to download shows to the iPad
I’ve had the monthly, but this weekend went on and got the lifetime option. I’ve seen how responsive @TabloSupport and @TabloTV are and they let me be a beta tester, even though I complain about theEPG not being updated. After seeing the latest beta is what made me change my mind and go lifetime.
Thanks @beastman!
I plan to go lifetime after my year is up, but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth that there is no upgrade option for the folks that have committed with their pocketbooks already.
I chose not to go lifetime, but not because of a bet on the future of Tablo. Rather, we are planning to move in the next 2 or 3 years to a place where there is only one broadcast station within reasonable range. Now I have to see if I win my bet that we will actually move in less than 3 years. :))
I’m debating between going one year and seeing what the competition brings or going lifetime.
On one hand Tablo has a great product with an awesome support staff, on the other hand they seem to be more interested in widening their platforms and obtaining new customers as opposed to improving the experience of existing customers.
@TabloTV. I kind of agree with @Max. The features are needed prior to other platforms. Especially delete whole shows.
@Max - We’ve got several things in the works that should make existing users really happy. Our CEO told us today that the focus for the next little while needs to be on flushing out the features of the product and eliminating some of the things that users dislike.
@TabloTV - I went on and took the lifetime because of how good the current beta is. Within the coming year, I believe lots of the features that have been requested will be there, such as delete all shows, keep last so many shows, and being able to copy to NAS or maybe a second usb disk connected to the Tablo, support for larger drives, use two disk, multiple ways of listing recordings. I KNOW it will get there. There are only so many hours in a day and you only work so many hours per day and off the weekends. You have an excellent product that just needs some features added. Keep up the good work!

I agree with your CEO!!
