Tablo Speed on Start Up

Good morning everyone. Has anybody on here noticed that the load time on the Gen 4 has improved greatly over the last week. I have noticed it on my Roku Ultra. I used to hit the Tablo button and it would take 20 to 30 seconds to come on line and now it takes about 6 seconds. Whatever Tablo has done it is a great improvement. On my ONN 4K Pro it comes on just about instantly

+1 all the Tablo functions seem faster (Gen 4, Roku Ultra) since a couple days following the big outage last weekend. Much less churning to get from one screen to another.

I improved my wifi mesh and TV reception, but those changes predate the above outage so I don’t think they are the cause of the improvements I am seeing.

I will guess that the outage was the impetus to make some technical changes at Tablo, which the tech staff probably long knew were needed, but maybe weren’t able to carry out, for whatever reason.

There are supposedly coming out with a new update so you can watch Tablo OTA channels if their servers are down in or you have no Internet. That will be nice if it happens

When all the discussion of slow loading started a while ago, I started keeping track. On my Ultra it could load as quickly as 12 seconds, or as long as a minute and 20 seconds. HOWEVER, I also realized that all my other apps, Netfilx, Prime, Hulu, etc… also loaded more slowly. I don’t think it was a Tablo issue, I think it was a Roku issue.

Yes, It does seem to be better now, and to the best of my knowledge, Tablo has not pushed out new software to the Gen 4 or updated the Roku app. I don’t know if Roku has pushed out an update, but I am thinking it was primarily a Roku issue.

Did anyone else notice this?

It could be the Roku but I have not noticed any update. Whatever happened was for the better

I have noticed the speed up also. I first noticed it after the server crash last Sunday. I have a Roku Ultra 4802X and a 2ch 4gen Tablo, both Ethernet connected. It seems like Tablo sped up their servers after the crash. Now if they could just fix the problems with the Roku app…

Maybe this was a wake up call for Tablo. After the server outage is when mine started working faster

Def seems a lot fasterđź‘Ť

It also seems faster on my Android phone. Perhaps something they did on the server side?

And while the actual tablo unit may need to phone home once a day, remind me why when all I do is start the roku app it needs to phone home to the actual tablo servers?

A change on the server side makes sense, especially if the delay is due to the loading of the home page. Maybe they changed the way that page loads its data. I am now seeing start times of 6 - 8 seconds. Very impressive.

I don’t use or want the “home” menu. Why can’t I remove it from the app(s). Maybe load times would go down to 2 seconds.

My Roku still does this. I contacted support and made several posts in the forums, but no resolution.

I agree. I have the Roku ultra and after nine months of what I consider beta testing. I believe Tablo finally has it worked out. Load time on my fourth GEN is about the same now as what I had with the earlier legacy dual. From seeing load times anywhere from 10 to 90 seconds, typical speeds are now a couple of seconds. Good job Tablo please don’t make any “improvements“

Everything does seem very snappy now. This is exactly what I’ve been expecting!

Must have been a tablo server change, because i dont think any apps have been updated yet to support offline.

I have a theory based on my Tablo OG (a.k.a. legacy) experience.
Tablo app startup takes a lot longer, if my Tablo doesn’t have an internet connection to check:
subscription status;
firmware update.

I bet the recent gen 4 speed up is due to Tablo servers functioning properly.

I want the gen 4 to work when the tablo servers aren’t functioning.

Me too.
It’s the only reason I’m not buying one now.

If you think of all the gen 4 apps and all the possible touch points these might have with tablo servers, you might be waiting a while for the final solution.

It’s easier for legacy users to get a good deal on a gen 4 and use it for any overflow and non-critical recordings. During sports seasons it’s just as easy to schedule overflow on my gen 4 and use the flash.

It is amazing how much the fast starting has improved the whole Tablo experience. I find that I feel much more positive when I select the Tablo app on my Roku.
