Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.0.2)

Thanks for the filmstrip fix. Is there a way to filter the shows in the library back to only shows that have recordings? Since the last update, it is showing every show that you ever recorded, even if there aren’t any recordings available. It makes it very difficult to see what you actually have recorded. I have to use the app on my phone to see what shows are available to watch.

Just wanted to add to those who are saying “thank you” for returning to the film-strip format.

Just picked up the latest Roku Ultra on sale. Love the new backlit remote. Roku saw I already had a unit on my network and transferred as far as I can tell all the apps over. I did have to sign to a few of them. Tablo loaded up and wow with the new Roku Ultra it is very nice experience. I had a Firestick on this TV but I have to say I like the Roku interface better. I’ll keep the Firestick as a backup if Tablo and Roku don’t get along.

Just wait a few minutes, they’ll start arguing.

Oh I hope not. When it is all said and done I’m going to have multiple streaming devices from different Vendors. I figure I saved enough money using OTA and the Tablo box I can afford the safety of having multiple units.

Like being able to still watch TV when the server is out.

Yes! This would be awesome!

I like the Tablo much better than my old Channel Master DVR+, but the Channel Master did have one distinct advantage of not needing an Internet connection (at all). It would benefit from it by giving 2 weeks of listings, but you could still get basic listings without Internet. It pulled it from the PSIP data.

Anyone else experiencing issues with their 4th gen Roku apps this morning?
My client sits at the opening splash screen “connecting to your Tablo” indefinitely.

I’ve done all the usual, i.e., rebooted my tablo, checked for a Roku client update, force closed/restarted the Roku client, checked for Roku firmware updates… all to no avail.

Roku model: 4802X
Roku OS Ver: 14.5.4
Roku Tablo App Ver: 1.0.2.734366
Tablo 4th Gen 4 tuner: Firmware ver 2.2.54

I had a similar issue this morning. My Roku (4802X) hung at the opening screen. My Android app was working. About 45 minutes later I tried my Roku again and it was working. I have seen several short crashes in the last few weeks, usually both Roku and Android. (I am not sure what you mean by client).

Hi @Paxsoga, @TimeComes

We had some server slowdowns this morning. They should be resolved now.

So you are saying the effort to decouple both the tablo unit and the app from dependence on tablo servers has gone and is going nowhere.

I really would like a response to zippy’s comment. We sometimes use our Tablo while camping, often with poor or no internet connectivity. Having the application dependent on backend servers/services is seriously problematic in some conditions. I’d at least like the choice to be online/offline, especially given situations like this morning.

Sorry T - in this case client = Roku Tablo App

I appreciate you responding. There was a time when posts like these sat unanswered.

You might consider something like this for camping…and it has a built-in signal meter.

ATSC Digital Converter Box with TV Tuner, TV Recording, USB Multimedia Function, 1080P HDMI, Metal Case, Clear QAM, by Mediasonic HomeWorx (HW250STB)

It’s in active development right now. Please stay tuned

Since both my Tablo and my Roku are located on my local LAN, why do they need to connect to a server on the Internet?

Tablo changes are working well and appreciated. The FF is much faster than before. Larger filmstrip allows viewing to see the TV14 logo shows start of program.

Likely for updates to content, scheduling, and other system updates.

Agreed! I should have worded my post differently. :slightly_smiling_face:

Since both my Tablo and my Roku are located on my local LAN, why do they need to connect to a server on the Internet to connect to it or watch my recordings?

My Internet is rarely down, but it does happen and the inability to utilise my Tablo during an outage is frustrating! When the Internet is down, I lose the ability to connect to streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, et cetera (obviously), but I should be able to watch stuff on my Tablo on my local network. In past, if the Internet went down while the Tablo app was still loaded on my Samsung television, I could indeed watch live television and my recordings, but if it was not already loaded, I was out of luck. The Roku appears to go through the connection every time I switch to it, but the old Samsung app did not.

Additionally, basic listings are still possible without an Internet connection. The now discontinued Channel Master DVR+ would get listings data from PSIP if an Internet connection was not available.

I’m pretty sure it was a conscious design decision in order to provide a free tv guide. They can sell the viewing habits data collected. I’m also pretty sure the fix they are working on will cache the data when the internet is unavailable and send it when it comes back on.
