I believe the Quad has more flash memory (8GB vs 1GB) which could in the future give it a much richer set of features as they have more space for code. I would wait, just be sure to put a fan or something under it.

But they run the same firmware. It may come late for the original at times like limiting number of tuners and just different tuners overall.

For now they do, I suspect in the future the older devices will become ‘legacy’.

BOM costs and the history of other products that end up with more flash memory. Cell phones are the number one example. They all run the same OS until that one day when stuff doesn’t fit anymore and the old ones are left behind.
