About the Category View
The new Category View groups major local networks, your favorite channels, and other related programming together within the grid guide, making it even easier to browse and discover shows that match your interests.
By grouping channels with similar content instead of arbitrarily by channel number, you can quickly hop through the grid and find something great to watch, whether you want to laugh, check out the news, or learn something new.
The classic Channels Grid View will still be available, and you can switch your view at any time. Your chosen view will remain your default selection until you change it, even if you close and relaunch the Tablo app.
Sorry, but I’m not a fan of this new Live TV Guide Category View feature.
The new Category based view made the Guide duplicated. It shows my over the air channels twice, and the Fast channels three times. Probably since the first part of the list is Featured, and the second part is Favorites. So that makes the Favorites practically worthless if it’s just going to list everything multiple times in this new view. So now I have to use the Channels view with no more Favorites only list.
Update:
I also noticed that my iPad is showing Featured, Favorites, Local Networks, and Drama, instead of what the iPhone pictured above is showing as Favorites, Recent, Featured, and Local Networks.
This there any way to get your local channel in the guide to show first? I didn’t like it when you put just a few channel in front of the local channel and now I definitely don’t like all my sub channels moved. What I did was go in and remove every channel but my local channel. The main reason to have a Tablo is to record your local channels. So they should be a priority in the guide. Also I have a couple of channels where the guide so the wrong programming for that channel.
When I first set to Channels View, the Filter by Type was greyed out, but I checked it again and now it’s no longer greyed out so I’m able to select a Filter now.
@TabloTV, why won’t you add the Shows, Movies and Sports tabs to the IOS app? Looking for programs by genre makes a lot more sense than looking for channels by category.
When I got my Tablo (gen 4) two years ago I had to uncheck about 200 channels to get decent performance from my Roku Ultra 4670RW. Scrambling the list of the remaining 20-some channels does not make them any easier to find.
I only get five of the twenty categories shown on the support page: Favorites, Local Networks, Entertainment, Kids and General. I already had Favorites. Local Networks are part of my favorites. Entertainment and Kids only got one channel each. All the other channels got dumped into General. That is not helpful.
I will be switching back to channels view and hoping maybe someday the IOS app will get the Shows, Movies and Sports tabs.
Two years after the product was released does it look like the light has gone off and tablo will be providing access to the shows, movies, and sport guide. Instead they appear to be doubling down on customers having to use the Live TV grid. And that is hilarious since it always seems the grid has more problems then the guide.
