Tablo Gen 4: degraded performance and stability over time

My Tablo (Gen 4) performance, responsiveness, and stability have dramatically worsened. Now I am sporadically seeing “failed to load content”, a never-ending circling arrow when a program (live or recorded) is selected, thumbnails of programs appearing very slowly, or not at all. Has this been your experience as well?

I believe that, similar to a smartphone, sometimes a factory reset is needed to clear memory and persistent caches. A big downside for Tablo is that there is currently no backup utility. This is a major issue that risks all the users’ recorded content should a factory reset be required. If you have the same concerns, maybe we can all press Tablo support for a backup utility.

Thank you.

I have WiFi plug on Tablo and power cycle it every night at 2:47AM. If there are memory leaks and other accumulating problems in the software at least it gets a fresh start every night.

…or put one of these on Tablo set to power off for 15 minutes at some time in the night.

Thanks for the advice; I do have a smart plug to turn off the Tablo when problems occur, but it is of limited use.

There are persistent resources which are not freed up when you power cycle (or press the rest button).

That’s why (as is often the case with smartphones) that a factory reset is needed.

I haven’t rebooted my legacy or 4th gen Tablo for years at a time with no issues (usually it is only because of a long power outage).

I definitely do not recommend a factory reset unless there are no other options.

Same here. Installed my 4th gen Sept 2023 never rebooted.

Same here. I have never had to factory reset it since I installed it in late 2023. I have it plugged into a smart switch but have only occasionally power cycled it (maybe 3 or 4 times).

@dnadle I experienced the same thing you described: degradation in performance, a never-ending circling arrow when a program (live or recorded) is selected, thumbnails of programs appearing very slowly, or not at all, and very slow operation. After a soft reset (short pressed the reset button) everything was back to normal.

So far, this has only happened once, and as I said, a soft reset restored normal operation. I would not recommend a factory reset. Only use that as a last resort.

Thanks to all for their assistance; it seems I’ve had more issues than most. When this reoccurs again, I’ll provide additional detail and pics to help troubleshoot the problem.

It would be nice to have a soft graceful restart option in the settings to restart every X number of days at X time. A hard power cut could cause corruption if cut at the wrong time.
