I bought a Tablo in October 24, model TF1282B-01-CN. I have a whole house antenna in my attic and it picks up great signals from 50-60 miles from the broadcast stations. I installed the Tablo near the antenna at first. I could only get a good picture on one of my tv’s using the app on ROKU receivers. I have 1) Express 4k+ and 2) Express ROKU receivers. The only one that works correctly and quite well is the 4k. I experimented moving the Tablo to two other locations in the home and got the same results. I then moved the ROKU receivers and the good picture moved with the 4k. I wonder why my Tablo only works with the ROKU Epress 4k+?
The Roku Express only support 802.11 b/g/n networking while the Express 4k+ (as well as most other ROKUS) support 802.11 ac. The bandwidth needed for the Tablo is just too much for the Express’s outdated networking.
@ronknowsbest - also, to add to @snowcat’s post, here is the list of Roku models and features that you might want to validate your model against. Only the very latest Roku Ultra 4850 is Wifi6 (802.11ax) compatible. Because there are several Roku Express models, it would be helpful to know the model number(s) of yours.
The regular Express only has 512MB of RAM. That isn’t enough to allow much, if any, buffer space. The 4K+ has 1GB, the Ultra has 2GB. As has been noted here many times, and I think not just for Tablo but for any usage, the Express 4K+ should be considered the entry-level model. The regular Express is just too outdated and limited. It has problems even with regular apps at times.
