Tablo 4th gen memory

New to Tablo and have this question. I have Tablo set up with onn 4k pro. I watch the news ota and my wife comes home and wants to see from the beginning. But when i rewind the live program and hit the button to play it erases it and starts recording at the live. So the 20 or 30 minutes are lost.
How to i keep this from happening without recording the episode and watching it later?

Just to confirm, your tablo and android app is fully updated, right?

Why don’t you just record it like I do and watch it later and skip the commercial breaks? Then you can watch it together with your best mate!

Recording it is a great idea. Even if you start it right after it begins recording, you can rewind to the beginning later. Just be sure to play it from your recent recordings or the show tab itself.

Also, are you starting live play by clicking on the show or the channel #?

Tablo has a buffer that holds what you’re currently playing. Depending on your viewing device’s available active memory, this buffer may fill quickly. If the pause buffer gets too full, it has no choice but to reset the pause position in order not to use all of the device’s active memory and crash.

The best way to avoid this, as suggested above, is to set a recording to be able to rewind, pause, and fast forward with impunity.

Yes all up to date

Coming from Tivo to the Tablo, i can start watching a program and Tivo will allow me to rewind back 45 minutes. Tablo will show that it has about the same amount when i start the rewind, but as soon as i rewind even 5 minutes if clears everything as soon as I hit play. I can pause and then play with no problems. I have not paused and waited to see when it will auto start back playing.
The main reasons for selecting Tablo over Tivo, price, wifi and fan noise. I guess it will take time to get use to the differences in the way they are programed. And it looks like Tablo has a long way to go to get the software perfected.

See, as soon as you start watching a show, it automatically keeps a huge cache on the tablo itself (provided you have enough drive space). But IDK if it matters how you start a program or not. That’s why I asked if you are clicking on News or the Channel.

I select it from the channel in the guide.

Just to make sure I have this right… instead of clicking on the SHOW you want to watch, you go all the way to the left and click on the channel name/number?

I think I know what you are talking about, and I was thinking the same thing. If you start watching a program live and part way through you think “Gee, I wish I had recorded this” I can find no way to record it, other than exiting the program and selecting ‘record’ from the Guide. Everything you already watched will be lost, and it will start to record from this moment on. I really wish I could record from within a partially watched program without losing what has been watch. I wouldn’t think it should be too hard since it is already recorded into memory somewhere. All other DVRs I have used can do this, including Tivo and DirecTV’s DVR. I love my Tablo 4G, but I am compiling a ‘wish list.’
