Bought a new 4th generation 4 tuner Tablo to replace my working legacy 2 tuner Tablo and practically nothing works consistently with any of my Roku devices.
Old legacy Tablo worked perfectly, but new one doesn’t seem to like Roku. Updated both Tablo and Roku firmware, but still have one glitch after another. Just who’s side of the fence do these problems belong to, Tablo or Roku? Will these problems ever get fixed?
Do any of your Roku devices work? If you haven’t already done so, you might review the models of your Roku devices. If they’re 4+ years old they may be too old for this Tablo Gen4 model (not enough memory, underpowered, etc). You can see their specs at this Wikipedia page.
Keep in mind that the Gen4 Tablo requires higher network bandwidth and may also require a stronger OTA signal - where the legacy Tablo and TV would work the Gen4 may not. As I’ve heard from another user, they had to review their streaming devices and reevaluate their network and antenna signal to get their streaming back up to par. You may need to do the same.
Same problems using the Gen 4 Tablo appear on new and older Roku’s (Ultras and Sticks) including a brand new Roku TV. All Roku’s and TV’s show excellent WiFi connection and speed.
My network speed is over 300 through an Asus giga router and at night nothing much else is using any bandwidth. The Gen 4 is only a couple of feet from the Ethernet port.
I rebooted everything and have one TV/Roku within a few feet of the router that has the same problem as all the others in the house.
I suppose I could just have a bad unit, but others I know that also took advantage of the recent drop in price to get one are all having similar problems and sending them back.
The Gen 4 finds plenty of strong channels and when working all display fine. Then the app will stall or some other problem brings up the spinning wheel or some other problem when it records or plays back.
I wouldn’t think that a single recording would cause any problems. The reason I ask is that if your internal storage gets too full, or if there are problems with an external drive, that can cause some problems like buffering or interruptions.
You said you rebooted everything. Did that include the router? Some folks miss that step, and it can solve some problems.
You wouldn’t think a single recording would cause a problem, but looking back the Gen4, after a bumpy startup appeared to work ok. Then later that night I recorded the one program and the next night things got worse and like others report couldn’t play the recording without it stalling. Maybe a coincidence, but regardless the Gen4 just doesn’t work reliably like the old legacy Tablo.
Someone really needs to run some through testing on the Gen4/Roku combo and tell us what’s really going on.
