Suddenly Buffering 🤔

Ok, no idea why it’s happening but all of a sudden, my Tablo 4th Gen (4 tuner) has started buffering when playing back recordings.

It happens randomly and several times during every episode, starting a couple of days ago. I’ve made no changes to my set up but have done the following:

  • Restarted the Roku
  • Confirmed latest Tablo Roku app is installed
  • Restarted the TCL Google TV
  • Checked for latest Tablo phone app updates (Android - it’s current)
  • Restarted modem and router

I have not restarted the Tablo (avoiding that because I want to avoid reconnection hassle–but I’ll do it if I have to).

I also have not tried to see if it is happening when playing back the recording via the Android app (because I never watch on my phone).

Any thoughts?

Hi @JHerrera3,

Buffering is usually due to a newtwork slowdown or (rarely) an issue with your hard drive.

This article has some troubleshooting tips.

Thanks for the reply. I’m a bit of a techie, so very familiar with wi-fi / internet issues and how to resolve them. I don’t use an external storage drive, so that’s not a problem. I don’t think it’s a bandwidth / modem / router issue (but not ruling it out).

Here’s why: I ran several speed tests during my troubleshooting. No indications of a bottleneck. Speeds have been consistent and on the high end for a wi-fi connection in my home (I have a 1 Gbps connection, asymmetrical). I’m running a 3-node mesh router which has been stable for the 2 years since I set it up. No recent firmware updates or config changes. I did switch from Cloudflare to Google DNS, but that was over a year ago and it’s caused no problems in that time.

Honestly, my gut tells me it could be related to a recent Tablo app update (for the Roku). I’m going to re-watch a portion of the show I played back yesterday (the one that buffered) via my android Tablo app and see if it still does it. I don’t ever use the app on my phone for watching, but I guess it’s worth a shot. :crossed_fingers:t4:
