For at least 6 to 9 months I have been having 2 issues.
- At times changing channels in the Tablo would result in the spinning circle causing:
Sometimes an aggravating delay
Sometimes Weak Signal Error
Sometimes a Low Storage Error - After changing the channel in the Tablo there would be a repeated Group of Pictures (GOP)
One of my television channels was so bad that it would sometimes repeat the GOP several times. So initially I thought that it was being caused by an RF signal problem.
But when I combined both of those problems I came to suspect they were being caused by my Ethernet cabling.
There is always a rats nest of cabling around my computer, router, and other devices. So I did a clean up of that cabling. I will need to purchase a couple of 3 and 6 foot Ethernet cables to complete that job. Too much coiled up Ethernet cable is just inviting a problem.
While doing that I noticed an Ethernet splice block that I was using to quickly disconnect a device. Thinking that it might not be shielded or only very poorly shielded, I took it out of the system.
Then I removed the power from the Tablo, and removed the power from my router for about 15 seconds. After the router had completed its power up, I reapplied power to the Tablo. These modern Ethernet cables are carrying signals into the VHF and UHF frequency ranges so they can radiate that signal into other equipment. Interfering or noisy signals can cause tuning issues. If there were still repeated GOPs I would have rescanned the Tablo channels and I might do that later anyway.
The rule of thumb in engineering is Murphy’s Law. (Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.)
A quick test showed that the spinning circle delay is dramatically shorter. And the repeated GOPs are gone on the worst Television channel for that symptom.
