i’m surprise there are no specs published anywhere about the tablo device other than being able to connect via wifi on both 2.4 and 5GHz.
It’s likely 100 Mbit, and if not it’s def fast enough to stream 1080p. It’s not going to be 10 Mbit unless this device was made in 1980. Def don’t need 1,000 Mbit,
Power consumption is very low. Check out this thread:
The most any stream can be is 10 Mbps. So considering the stated max is 6 devices streaming at once, 100 Mpbs is still plenty of bandwith.
USB3 and gigbyte ethernet ports are just overkill for the Tablo and only bring the price up. The Tablo folks sized their device well.
Considering all of the hard drive disconnect issues reported on this forum, stating USB3 would be overkill is a bit much.
My HDD has zero disconnect issues.

Those issues have nothing to do with USB speeds.
Even though there is still plenty of head room for 6 streams @ 10Mbps each as Snowcat explained, I would have still have preferred a Gigabit ethernet port. If/When the day comes that Tablo releases software for transferring shows off the Tablo to your computer, GigE would be much preferable vs 10/100. At minimum, Premium Tablo model, ie 4 tuner, should have had Gigabit ethernet. For recording and playback of shows USB2 is more than enough but add in the desire to transfer content and for sure you’d rather have USB3. Maybe these will be considered for Tablo2
Would USB3 or GigE help reduce any lag before streaming?
No it would not.
