Source for Legacy remote--not in Tablo store

Looked at the Tablo store and remotes are no longer listed/available. Is cloning via a 3rd party learning remote the only remaining option?

@TabloTV
I hate it when accessories are silently removed from existence.

If you guys are gonna discontinue something, fine.
Prominently publish that fact, so we can buy spares before you run out of stock.

Just be careful believing what you read on the internet (it’s worth what you pay for it)! For example, the Amazon FireStick remotes don’t work well with the Onn boxes. Yes, the basic functions kinda work (there some serious lag and the remotes keep disconnecting and have to be re-paired). Can’t speak to the others in the above article but I suspect they would be the same until someone does a thorough evaluation of them.

What remote are you looking for (for what device?) Have you tried Amazon or Ebay for genuine remotes?

Oh, and I use the Amazon remote on my Shield Pro (I hate the nVidia remote) and it works just fine! No idea why it works on the Shield and not the Onn?!

I tried using the learning function on a Harmony 650 a few years back to clone the Tablo remote without any luck. (2 tuner HDMI connected Legacy)

Also tried to get the then Tablo and Harmony tech folks to talk so the Tablo codes could be added to the existing code set. That went no where.

Wanted to see if anyone else had figured out a current day alternative. Maybe codes for other A/V equipment that work, or maybe someone that’s actually successfully cloned the Tablo remote and can give a specific–current day–hardware (remote) recommendation. Lots of IR learning remotes advertised out there—but will they actually work?

If you get a JP1-based remote and a cable, you can add it if you don’t have an existing remote to learn from.

The OP is requesting a workaround for cloning the TABLO remote, not a streaming device remote. Some of the HDMI-connected Tablos had remotes.

@Trigger - maybe just call support to see if they have any? Or maybe they can point you in the right direction for how to clone theirs or what type of 3rd party remote would work best for cloning theirs.

Hi, andyross,
Will you tell more about this? my Tablo remote is broke, can’t do crone.
Tablo keeps sending me info that doesn’t work - Logitech, GE, One of All… I wasted weeks to only confirm that none of them works with Tablo.
Thank you!

Have you try using your TV own remote? I remember mine working if you enable CEC function

enabled CEC, but, I can’t figure out how my Toshiba TV remote can control Tablo, or switch between TV and Tablo…

there should be a button with the name Input or source, My LG remote just have an Icon, that should make you switch sources, If you remote has something in the middle that you can use up, down, left and right, that’s what you can use to control your tablo, just press those buttons and see if your tablo reacts to it, even an exit and back button should work too

Thank you,
I just can’t find input or source button… I’ve checked many online articles when I tried to use CEC function.

Attached is the diagram of my Fire TV remote.

Is either the Menu or the Settings button

Just tried with my Vizio remote and it does works, this is my remote and the areas with the white circles are the ones I use to control the Tablo

@tiger-hjt, what is your Tablo model number? Did it come with a Tablo-branded remote? If so, you will likely need to contact @TabloTV or @TabloSupport directly to ask if they have any in stock, or request information about the remote so you can find a suitable replacement as a clone.

I don’t believe any of the streaming device remotes will work on a Legacy device with a Tablo-branded remote. You might be able to get a universal or TV remote (with multiple device capability) to work, but it’ll probably be through trial and error if Tablo can’t or won’t help.

Reminder, this post is for Legacy Tablo Remote.

Thank you, but I tried them all, never switches to Tablo.

Thanks,
But, my initial comment explained all.
If Tablo was responsive, I won’t be here asking the community…

Hit the menu button, it should show you how to switch to a different HDMI input and find the one with the tablo plugged in

Thanks, but selecting Analog/HDMI is from the TV side. After I select HDMI, nothing works. I tried all buttons on the TV remote.

I tried to use CEC when I set up, spent good hour or so, but couldn’t do it.

A year later or so, I was tired of using a TV remote and a Tablo remote, tried CEC again - couldn’t do it.

Now, my Tablo remote is dead, I must use CEC or a universal remote.
No matter what, my TV remote won’t work with Tablo.

As for universal remote;
I’m stuck with a new One-For-All remote that I just bought because multiple Tablo reps said would work. It is not compatible with Tablo. (can’t do sync’ing as the Tablo remote is broke.)

I contacted Tablo multiple times over the past 4 weeks, and they just keep sending me the same list - Logitec, GE, OFA… Tablo cannot give me the programming codes. Took weeks of my time to contact manufacturers/authorized dealers, just to confirm they cannot be programmed with Tablo.

Tablo rep most recently said, he would research and send me solution. More than a week passed, but nothing has come, and my follow up has been ignored.

I searched if anyone is selling a used Tablo HDMI remote, but can’t find any.

The only way to get a Tablo HDMI remote is to buy a whole Tablo legacy HDMI set at around $120 - $150 at ebay. If I’m buying a new set, I rather leave Tablo and go to other brand altogether after these experiences.

All of those just for a lack of Tablo remote.

If you haven’t already, try calling their toll-free support number and see if you can talk to a live person.

Orrrrrr, you could just buy a 4-tuner Gen4 device and call it a day. Then you’ll only have one remote. :upside_down_face:
