Simultaneous recording and playback

using a roku 4200x, both roku and tablo on latest software. tablo 4tuner gen4. is this model (aka roku 3 ultra) compatible? the 4k streaming stick does not seem to have the issue.

if i record an OTA broadcast channel but try to watch that channel while the recording is taking place, i get
no audio
playback frequently freezes, app freezes
any suggestions?

I can watch other channels when recording, just an issue if i watch the channel being recorded

My 4200 roku audio is set to auto - dd+,dts. gen 4 audio compatibility mode off.
roku os 15.1.4-3321

Recorded nascar on OTA fox. Went to library/latest watch from the beginning worked fine Went to Live and fox and watch live - worked fine.

My OTA fox is 720p and dd 2.0.

If you are trying to record a FAST channel you are on your own.

Have you checked in Tablo Settings>Troubleshooting>Audio Compatibility Mode. Toggle on. This is a known issue with Roku.

My gen 4 has never had audio compatibility mode on. And I thought the problem was limited to certain bottom feeder models. But I also don’t set the roku audio mode to stereo

Are you using any of these Roku Models listed as not compatible with Tablo? Have you tried turning Audio compatibility Mode on the see if this corrects your issue? I did not have it on and things were fine…until they weren’t. I turned it and never looked back. And I am using Roku Stick + which is not on the naughty list. Does not hurt to try turning it on.

  • 2021 Roku Express 4K+ (model 3941X and model 3941RW2)
  • 2021 Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820R2)
  • 2021 Roku Streaming Stick 4K (model 3820X)
  • 2021 Roku Ultra LT (model 4801RW, model 4802RW, and model 4802X)
  • 2019 Roku Express (model 3930X)
  • 2017 Roku Ultra (model 4660X)

My 4660 has never had the “audio” problem. And neither has my 4210 or 4802. The 4801 is a stripped down walmart model

I’m curious, where did you get this list? I can’t find it on Tablo’s listings.

https://support.tablotv.com/hc/en-us/articles/13954983793940-Tablo-Compatible-Apps-and-Devices#01HZ0BN9KKEPMRY0MECGWP3P15

I maybe lucky, but my 4660x works without any problems.

my tablo will not let me turn off audio compatibility, the second i turn it off and try to view a live, it forces me to turn it on before it will stream. I didnt think twice about it as i thought it was just my tv being so old it cant pass through any audio formats released after 2008.

the one where everything is working is my newer 3820x on 15.1, audio compatibility mode is forced by tablo on this

Known Issue - Tablo Roku App Crashing During Live TV Playback

Audio Compatibility Mode is a universal setting on your Tablo. Once it is set, all of your devices will received the adjusted audio, even if they are not Roku devices. But, at least your Tablo will work on the previously incompatible Roku devices.

This mode was the solution to a very annoying problem that was caused by a Roku OS change (I think OS 15), that made Tablo incompatible on many Roku devices for about four months.

If somewhere in your playback ecosystem you have a sound bar how does this setting affect DD 5.1 surround sound.

I found it when I first got my 4th Gen Tablo and was having trouble with playback on Roku ver. 14.

I stand corrected, it was the OS 14 rollout that caused the audio and crashing issues.

Thanks.

Hi @As_ny_user,

Does this article explain the prompt you’re getting?

It may be that your TV would crash Live without Audio Compatibility Mode on.

yep thats it
