Scrolling most recordings freeze indefinitely (Shield DVR engine)

Hi,
Context

  • I have the Tablo DVR engine (USB stick) on the Nvidia Shield.
  • I bought this drive for recording:
    Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive (STHN2000400)
  • I can watch live and record.

Problem
For most recording, when I scroll, back or forward, it freezes indefinitely.

I got this drive because Tablo recommended to not use USB sticks for storage.
I get a sense that Nvicida says to get sticks instead of disks for performance reason (since they’re not as concerned about storage size I guess).

I get a similar issue on Chrome on PC when watching live and pausing it for a few minutes. If the show ends while paused and I resume playback, when I ff through commercials, overshoot a bit and rewind a couple of clicks, it freezes just about every time. If I back out to the guide and if the channel is still active, I can go back to the point where it froze and continue watching.
