Whether or not it works properly on your phone or mobile device is a valuable troubleshooting step.
Iād like to update my response in this forum based upon some additional reading that points to a Samsung issue that is well known and that weāve experienced on our TV. Slow app loading is something that has been an issue for us and I just found a great article that points to Samsung TV limited memory and memory management. Temp files, unused apps accumulates over time and start limiting the amount of memory available and creates āmemory swappingā which shows up as āspinningā on the screen. This article is a good one that I found to help fix this. Before I give up on Tablo, Iām going to work on my Samsung to free up memory and see if this helps eliminate the buffering issue.

I think youāll be happy with the Tablo once you work through this issue. And, TV network wifi connections can be problematic because the internal wifi board is surrounded by a large metal box and you donāt know where on the set it is to maximize its placement.
I think youāre onto some good info on the Samsung. We have one and, while we love the picture, weāre not too jazzed about the OS (ours is the slightly older Tizen 5 or 6 which, BTW, has never been updated). We prefer using the Fire TV Stick b/c itās 4K and Wifi6.
Thanks for the encouragement (I needed a bit of it). Iām pretty confident in my Wifi for the TV and I have my router set for streaming priority QoS. I do have a couple Fire TV Sticks that I have used, but we really like the ability to have ONE remote - fewer moving parts. That said, if I canāt get Samsungās performance improved, I might just stick one onā¦
Given all the functionality of the Tablo, why not try a streaming stick/box that is known to work well with it (eg firestick, Onn, etc). Yes, seems a bit of a stretch when you already have a āsmartā TV but it appears the Samsung has some ādumbā issues remaining to be resolved!
Thanks, Iād prefer to get the Samsung working better and I think I now know the main issue - over time it accumulates temp files that slow down app start up and operation. I have two firesticks already and that might be an option, however, my wife and I really like the convenience of everything with one control - weāre so done swapping multiple remotes to run things. It is a fall back if I canāt get the Samsung working well with Tablo.

When you are done watching, do you exit out of the tablo app, or do you just turn the tv off? If you use the back button until it asks you if you want to exit the Tablo, it has a chance to empty any temp files.
As for remotes, have you tried a universal remote? I have been using a Logitech Harmony remote for ~15 years, going through 3 TVs, several Rokus and I donāt know how many Bluray/dvd players and it worked fine with all of them. Unfortunately, they discontinued the version that I use, so before they disappeared, I bought a new one, so when this one finally gives up the ghost, Iāll have a backup.
Thanks we try to remember to exit, but donāt always do it. Iāve noticed that this can be an issue for any of the Samsung apps. We use the Samsung remote since everything we need to see is on our Samsung to keep things as simple as possible. One of the things I like about Tablo is that it has a Samsung app so itās essential ānativeā to the TV and we donāt need another remote like we did with Tivo for many years.
Ok, update #2. I used Samsungās app to clean up all the app temp files - very easy to do had just never paid attention to it. All the apps seem to be operating much better in terms of load times.
Now, as to the Tablo. After doing this, Tablo loaded fine and I was able to set up a recording. But when I went into it a second time, I got the spin issue again. I then reinstalled the app and it went away. I also added a 500GB high speed memory stick to the unit (and formatted it). My thought is to give it more storage space so it doesnāt run low on working memory.
I also tested the Tablo by setting up and recording a 2 hour movie from live TV (the Samsung app) as well as ran Tablo on my iPhone, which worked fine. It successfully recorded the program as it shows 2 hour record time. I also turned off the antenna amp in the Tablo settings as it recommended doing this if I have another antenna amp, which I do. Not sure what effect this will have.
Iām looking forward to getting the beta version of the renewed Samsung app for Tablo to see how it works compared to the existing one.
So thatās all I have to report for now, weāll see how it goes.

However, if youāre running a USB stick, itās not recommended. A 1- or 2-TB (up to 8-TB) spinning HD is best for this type of media and storage.

Ok, next update. I swapped out the 500 GB flash memory stick for a Seagate 2 TB disk drive. That should do it! I was using it as a backup drive for my Mac Air and now am using the flash drive instead. No extra purchase required!
