Roku vs Phone app

New 4th Gen user here. I was having what appeared to be a reception problem watching a live broadcast with the Tablo app on my Roku Ultra. Then I opened the tablo app on my android phone and was able to watch the same channel flawlessly. Why is that?

Wild guess… Network differences. Pushing mpeg2 which isn’t really meant for streaming.

But, definitely a wild guess.

I know, I know… we’re supposed to ultra-hate the Roku. Just not the way I roll.

Sounds like a glitch. I would first try to reboot the Roku. If that doesn’t solve the problem, I would reboot the router. Failing that, I would reboot the Tablo.

It has been my experience that the Android phone app has the best Tablo experience. Not sure why.

All in all, Roku Ultra has be a weaker wireless card then your phone. 3 devices running client to client transfer will bog down the wireless channel. It will raise the channel utilization.

I would check signal strength in that general area.

Download InSSIDer on your laptop and see how the wireless splashes in your home. Anything below -73 is the start of low signal.

Also, if you have a weak/crappy wireless router… Putting a load on the wireless connection cause weak signal… But also your phone could be hogging up the air space. If you have “Airtime Fairness” option on your router, enable it. The router will give each client fair share of the air space.

Thanks for suggestions. I will look into InSSIDer. The Roku & Tablo are both hardwired via Ethernet to a newer mesh router which is also hardwired to the main router with a fiber link to the Internet.
