An update is now available for the newest Tablo Roku Channel for 4th Generation Tablo devices. This includes overall performance improvements and bug fixes.
If you’ve already got the latest Tablo channel installed, and your ROKU is set to automatic updates, you should see version 0.8.700 shortly. You can also manually update the channel by going to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > SYSTEM UPDATE from your Roku home screen.
Here’s what you can expect:
Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 0.8.700)
Adds stability changes for the live TV grid guide.
Adds ‘fast scrolling’ to list items by pressing and holding the directional navigation buttons on the Roku remote.
Fix to omit duplicates from the recent recordings shelf on the home screen.
Additional memory optimizations and performance enhancements
Part of the stability changes for the live TV grid include limiting some low-end Roku devices running Roku OS 13+ to displaying 7 days of data, instead of the full two weeks. These devices do not have enough active memory to load the full live TV grid and may still experience crashes before updating to Roku OS 13.
Note: Our team is also putting the finishing touches on another Roku update coming very soon, which will include many more user-facing changes that we think you’ll be happy about! Thanks for your patience and stay tuned for more updates!
Roku Hotfix 0.8.701
A resolution for the Live grid crash which a small set of users have experienced recently.
I just did a Roku software update check and Tablo 4th gen app just updated to version 1.7 released August 15, 2024. A Roku TV and Roku stick both updated to this new version. Just an FYI…
Way to go tablo! Send out an updated roku app that causes more problems than before! After 9 months of putting up with the worst deployment of the worst dvr in history, I’m finally ready to move on to something that actually works! Just wish I could get a refund for the unit as well as for all the wasted hours, days, months, of wasted time and aggravation trying to make this “P.O.S.” work like it’s supposed to. And before someone in their ivory tower tries to say it’s just that we don’t know what we are doing, I just have to say that this isn’t my first rodeo! Do the right thing tablo and offer anyone who wants a much deserved refund, said refund! GARBAGE UNIT! DO NOT BUY!
What do you want to know? How tablo won’t even dial in a channel for 4 or 5 minutes after the top of the hour during prime time? Or the multiple times I open tablo just to see the screen asking me to register. Then I have to open tablo app on my Android phone so that tablo app on roku sees it is already registered. Or when I scroll down the guide list and I get pretty close to the bottom, stop scolling, and the app bounces me out to the roku app screen, and I have to restart tablo app. How about when tablo won’t show record episode radio button for a particular program until I do a full reboot of the tablo, and it magically appears again. Or how about the times the tablo app for my roku ultra just spins and spins and won’t open until I reboot both? Or any of the multitude of problems that have been reported on these forums. (Most of which I have experienced.) You have to realize sometime that the tablo is an unrefined P.O.S. that was, and still is, NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME! My network is set up as problem free as humanly possible, I know it isn’t my network! All my other roku apps work smoothly all the time, including plex and jellyfin, so once again I say it is the tablo that isn’t ready! I will say it works a bit better on my cheap onn google tv box, but even it still has problems. And to inquire further, why should everyone have to buy multiple streaming boxes to just be able to watch ota tv on on just one tv? After being on sale for a year now, I think it’s time for tablo to throw in the towel! Just sayin’…
I uninstalled Tablo and when I went to reinstall Tablo, at the add app screen for Tablo there is a description about the app and at the end of the description is * more, press the star on Roku remote and a white box comes up with description again and version and date released.
Maybe the memory optimization changes optimized away everything below that point. But with the performance optimization change you can get to this location much faster.
Any word from @TabloTV on this? I was in a sweet spot of this actually working for me pretty consistently and now after whatever was done to update the application it gets stuck and won’t move forward. It makes the whole thing completely useless unless I want to watch everything on my phone. I typically use Roku, but I can’t get the Samsung app to work either. It seems all TV connections for me have been killed by your “update”.
For what it’s worth I think I have found a solution. If I wait a bit on the getting latest free shows and movies screen, (maybe 10seconds) then I hit OK on my remote it will advance into the program. There isn’t anything on the screen to prompt pushing the OK button, I just happened to do it randomly once. If you don’t press OK it appears on the screen like it’s still loading and getting the latest free shows and movies and will never go anywhere. Glitchy, but I’m glad I finally figured out a way to make it useable again.
Thank you TABLO! You added the ability to scroll to Movies>Genres and Shows>Genres on the Roku app. Now I can scroll, fast scroll too, to a genre and check out all the shows/movies coming up for the next two weeks in that genre. Hats off
