So if mobile devices can’t play an in-progress recording from the start, why, on the TabloTV app on my Android Pixel phone, does the app provide a button to “Watch From Beginning”? When I select that button, that’s clearly saying it will start the recording from the beginning, it only plays the live stream … and there’s no way to rewinde to the start.
This makes no sense what-so-ever.
Is this something that will be fixed … or is it going to be forever broken? TabloTV, are you good with this mess?
It appears that Tablo’s current priority is joining the crowded streaming market rather than maintaining the stable, world-class Over-The-Air (OTA) recording functionality that your customer base expects.
Genuine product improvement should mean adding new features without sacrificing or degrading the core functionality that built your loyal user base. Please prioritize restoring the stability of these foundational features.
New 4th gen here, 1 week on. I want to love this product. Works great otherwise, no subscription, great value.
Not an Apple partisan, but the Mrs. is; guys, can this marriage be saved? We watch PBS NewsHour together each night. From the middle I guess if we’re a tad late getting situated. Can’t believe I’m alone on this. Can’t rightly rave like I would like to without mentioning this issue.
I see Apple TV is on your supported platforms list, does it need an asterisk? Thanks Tablo David for your article linked above in this thread “Viewing In-Progress Recordings With the 4th Generation Tablo” of 9 months ago, missed it pre-sales. Please add me to the interested parties in a fix. Come on guys, figure it out. Thanks.
My understanding is that it’s a limitation of the device(s), not the Tablo. Or, the Gen4 Tablo doesn’t transcode MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 like in the Legacy devices do.
Maybe if/when Tablo redesigns the newer device with ATSC 3.0, they’ll take all this transcoding business into consideration.
So many ways to enjoy TV with Tablo. Simply download the Tablo TV app on your favorite smart device and it’s showtime!
iPhone & iPad
Very much impressed with what your company has accomplished! Watched da Bearz on local last night, well, the last 3 quarters anyway, I was a little late getting the snacks and beverages organized.
The formidable technical challenging of maintaining a consistent product across an astonishingly broad list of supported platforms is hella ambitious. Of course it is unreasonable that the exact same code base run unchanged from platform to platform. Each platform of course has its own idiosyncrasies that your engineers must work with. Yet to wave your hands and plea “architectural restriction” at a bug report is frankly some weak tea. Come on, now.
But I have confidence in you! You’ve done so much, you can do it! Figure it out or drop Apple TV. Please give us some hope, say you’re working on it. Speaking for myself, I still have my box here and most of 30 days. Don’t break my heart Tablo.
I am writing to provide an update to my ongoing support thread based on additional testing I conducted this past week.
My findings clearly show that the issues I am experiencing are not an inherent Apple iOS/tvOS problem, but are isolated to the new Tablo Application and Gen 4 device ecosystem.
Testing Results:
The New Tablo App: I used the new app to access both a new Gen 4 device and a legacy Tablo device. In both instances, the app consistently glitches and resets when attempting to access recorded content. Most notably, it still completely fails to start watching any recording that is currently “in progress.”
The Legacy Tablo App: I used the updated legacy app to access my legacy device and experienced no problems whatsoever. Performance was entirely stable.
As a long-time advocate for Tablo—having personally purchased and installed four separate units for family and friends—it is incredibly disheartening to field constant complaints from them regarding the new application and hardware.
The current level of Apple support has become substandard compared to your legacy ecosystem. I strongly urge Tablo to update its compatibility statements to reflect these performance discrepancies on Apple devices until a stable fix is deployed.
I look forward to your engineering team addressing these app stability and in-progress playback bugs as soon as possible.
Well stated, Hugh. The application development team certainly has some work ahead of them if they intend on maintaining and growing their Apple user base.
