Recommended Legacy Tablo 4 Tuner Power Supply?

Hi,
I did search this but didn’t get very far. I need a replacement power supply for a Legacy Tablo Model: SPVR4-01-NA. I bought one from the official store and I have no doubt the voltage is correct but the plug is too big.

I was hoping maybe someone here had a recommendation since I’m going to guess while software wise it is still supported hardware wise it is not.

Thanks
Jenna

This power adapter is the one for Legacy Tablo units, including yours:

What’s the link to the one you bought?

I bought that one, the plug that goes into the Tablo is too big. While I have little doubt it would work it doesn’t fit the power socket of the Tablo. I know they used to include an adapter cable that plugged between them but that wasn’t included with the one I got and I didn’t see an option for it.

I bought this one for my OG Legacy 2-tuner in 2025 and it’s working. The increased amperage should ensure your attached HD also has sufficient power.

thanks, I’ll try this one. :+1:

If you do not already have a battery backup on your Tablo, you might consider using DC mini UPS. I have a Mekotrin UPS that I tested with my legacy Tablo Quad and it powers it up just fine (with a USB powered external drive connected). It is ~$30 and takes the place of the regular power supply and will keep it running for a least a little while during a power outage.

This is a good idea for many things, might have to see if I can get a few of these over time to keep some other things powered during an outage

What exactly doesn’t fit? The 12v power supplies are pretty standard - 5.5x2.1 or 5.5x2.5. Was the center pin in your Tablo too big for a 5.5x2.1 plug?

The center pin is fine, it is the outer barrel of the plug that is too big for the Tablo

Interesting. I have a 4G and it has a standard size power plug. Is the Legacy power socket different?

I have a Legacy 4 Tuner and it doesn’t use the same plug as the Tablo Quad or Dual.
I have no idea what the 4G uses as I don’t have one.

Ah, OK, looks like you need this micro adapter-type:

Interestingly, most of the adapters on the web that claim compatibility with your device are actually the larger plug type. Go figure!

unfortunately they don’t include that adapter anymore. last time I checked the page they did, I was hoping they still did.

oh, I just realized what they are talking about. The Legacy Tablo Dual and Quad both use the larger plug, the Legacy Tablo 2 Tuner and 4 Tuner both use the smaller plug.

And the next gen will likely have a USB-C power plug!!!

that would figure…

EU applauds, until they remember the device can’t work there for other reasons. (and Canadadians just cry)

It looks in your picture like this is a 1.7mm, but I am just guessing. If it is, these adapters can be bought separately (if needed) to allow for using a standard 5.5 x 2.1 power supply. They are available in both stand-alone hard adapter and a cable version like in your picture.

Can someone confirm that the older version uses 4.0 x 1.7 or something else?

I’m fairly certain they aren’t that far off in size. I just compared the plug on the old dead power supply with the one on the new one I bought and I can’t see a difference with the naked eye, The size difference is probably 5.5 x 2.1 vs 5 x 2.1 or 2.0. It’s really close. The thing is both old and new say output 12V 2A. it’s annoying their choice to change the barrel size for the Legacy Quad/Dual when the old plug actually fits it but the new plug doesn’t fit the old Legacy 4 Tuner/2 Tuner. Someone please make it make sense.

At this point I’m half tempted to buy the right socket and solder it into the Tablo 4 Tuner. I really don’t want to do that so it will be a last resort but if I have to I have the skills to do it.
