I keep getting a “no storage connected” message when the attempting to view a show which is live in real time on a new channel. Other National channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS. have no issues. We’re in Chicago have 68 channels available. This is on a Tablo Dual Lite
This addendum relates to the new channel, WJYS Channel 62.2, where I receive a message “no storage Connected” when attempting to launch in real time… What I have learned when speaking with their tech support was that they recently upgraded to a MPEG-4 video broadcast to help with the transition to HD. They state that many older TVs have built in tuners that are only capable of receiving MPEG-2 signals. The continue to say a possible solution would be to purchase a tuner that supports MPEG-4, connect your antenna to that tuner, and then connect that tuner to your television. Could this the source of the problem I am experiencing with my older Refurbished Tablo DUAL LITE OTA DVR that I purchased 9/8/22. Can anyone give me any info as to this problem?
Legacy Tablos can only receive MPEG-2 signals. I believe that the new Gen 4 Tablo is capable of receiving both MPEG-2 & MPEG-4 signals.
Yeah, H.264 was approved for ATSC 1.0 late (ATSC 1.0 ratified in 1996, h264 support in 2008) in the ballgame which is why MPEG2 ruled the roost. But, sadly, and it’s not just MPEG2 vs MPEG4… there’s a lot in “the standard” which may or may not confuse a bunch of tuners if actually seen.
Anyway, it was all MPEG2 pretty much, and due to “other reasons”, some stations have started doing some broadcasts as MPEG4 now. But, it wasn’t what was “there” at the beginning. That is, it’s very conceivable to have a TV ATSC tuner that can’t do h.264 even (pretty sure about that). It’s just that such TVs would be very old today.
Here’s an article outlining what’s already been covered by our excellent community: Does Tablo Support Antenna TV Channels Broadcast in MPEG-4? – Tablo.
Thank you for your response. I guess my Tablo DUAL LITE OTA DVR is just obsolete with no chance of a software upgrade I presume. Or is that possible? Anyway I bought the Tablo as I anticipated having no live TV when I cut the cable from my cable / internet provider service. Somehow they overlooked that and never did, so I now have 2 avenues for live tv.
As the media formats prevent the OTA and cable provider feeds being merged into the same cable input, I purchased The Tablo unit. Again thank you and if you have any added thoughts or ideas feel free to respond as what info you have provided makes real sense.
The devices use hardware/firmware capabilities to do this. IMHO, hardware would have to be swapped out for a tuner that is capable.
