Programming not available

Under support and troubleshooting because it is but since returning from a weekend away and updating the app on firestick about half of the OTA channels have programming and half show “programming not available.” I looked through the last few days worth of posts and see nothing.
This morning the error still exists. Anyone have any ideas or is this an “awe shit” by the tablo programming team or the epg provider?

We see this briefly in our Gen4 Guide when we first open it and as we scroll, but it eventually fills in after a few to several seconds.

Not quite the same thing, but when scrolling up and down through the guide, the information for some channels changes from the correct info, to “Programing not available”. This happens in real-time. I can see the info suddenly change to “Programing not available” as I am looking at the guide. As I scroll up and down, some of the programming data fills in and some still says "Programing not available”. Sometimes, the correct data does not show up for several minutes. (I am using a Fire TV 4K Max).

Okay, @Scandy, our results may be similar to yours (my wife tells me). We also use the same FireTV 4k Max streaming device. I have the newest Roku Ultra that I can test later to see if the issue persists on that device.

UPDATE: I noticed some of the channels in my Guide were those that I didn’t save, so I wonder if the guide data changed and I need to review the Guide Lineup. Well, I did that and now I have fewer channels after disabling some. Now the Guide Update is running.

UPDATE2: Well, we’re still experiencing the issue after updating the channel lineup and updating the guide.

If those channels that say “programming not available” never fill in with data, you might have to change your location by changing the zipcode in your Tablo app.

When I first got my Tablo, I had a lot of channels with no information. I had to change my zipcode to one that was closer to the stations that were in my guide. It took me a long time to find a zipcode that worked with most of my channels (there is nowhere that I can “move to” where all of my channels slow up correctly).

As I use zipcodes that are closer to Hartford CT, The Hartford channels list correctly, but then some of the stations that I get from RI show up as coming from a different location, (so the guide data is wrong for those channels). If I “move” too far away from my real location, the Tablo will not accept the zipcode, so it is a real crapshoot to get the best zipcode for my group of channels.

When I use the zipcode from the town I actually live in, I have many channels listed with “programming not available”, and many stations that the Tablo thinks are in different locations. For example, channel 27.1 from Hartford showed up as a channel from NY, channel 27.2 and 27.3 showed up as channels from Boston, and 27.4 to 27.7 from Hartford!

I ended up using a zipcode 4 towns closer to Hartford. This made most of my channels show up correctly, but also made some others incorrect.

Yes, they filled in eventually.

@wysiwyggin I see the same thing. I can easily reproduce that by scrolling up and down through the guide.

(In my last post, I thought I was responding to the original poster, sorry)!

CHSN 19.4 always says programming not available but I can watch live and its very clear pic but I can’t record :sleepy:. Any ideas?

I’m having the same issue since starting my tablo last week. Five channels (GRIT, LAFF, DEFY, MYSTERY, and SCRIPPS NEWS) all list 'Programming not available) though I can tune to them. Tried multiple zip codes. No help. One time after a rescan, programming showed up for lower versions (7.4, 7.5 etc) of those channels that come in too poor to watch/record, but listed the programming for them. While it allows me to see what I could view on the better signal channel, of course I still can’t record it.

Did you ever resolve your issue? Sounds quite similar to mine.

No I didn’t but mine is just the one channel 19.4. I’m in a small town and I’m using the antenna that came with Tablo and I get all channels except 19.4.

I’m in a small town as well, but have a pretty good outdoor antenna and pick up much more than I expected. Support basically told me there was nothing that could be done and that maybe it would be resolved with the programming provider in about four months. I find this unacceptable. Obviously, the programming exists, it’s just not tied to the channels I receive them on. EXCEPT they work fine on my Hdhomerun. Granted, I pay $35/year for the DVR portion with guide and the FAST channels, but the channel programming is listed and available for recording. Was just hoping I could expect the same from my Tablo. Especially since I prefer the UI of Tablo slightly better.

Are you talking about the OTA version of Scripps News. My hdhomerun still lists OTA Scripps News and it’s schedule even though it was replaced by LAFF last December

Scripps News is no longer available on antenna. In November 2024, Scripps News discontinued its over-the-air broadcast and now focuses on streaming and connected TV platforms

My Hdhomerun lists and plays SCRIPPS on 24.8 which I believe is ota due to the signal strength meter? But really I’m more concerned with LAFF as my wife and I like to watch the old sitcom reruns. And to clarify, it’s the guide on tablo that I’m having an issue with.

Scandy May I ask what Zip Code you are using? I live in Newington, CT and can not get guide Data for MeTV Toons. Says programming not available. Yet I can watch it fine.

Newington is next to Hartford.

Thanks!

MeTV channels 35.7 (Story), 35.8 (Toons), and 35.9 (dabl) all show “Programming not available”, no matter what zip code I used. Unfortunately, there is no way to get them to show up properly.

As I posted above, I cannot find a zipcode that works for all of my channels, and some channels say “Programming not available” no matter what zip code I use. MeTV channels 35.1 thru 35.6 all show up correctly, so I know that the Tablo is choosing the correct MeTV channel from Hartford CT. I guess it is a problem or incompatibility with the Tablo’s program guide provider.

It is very annoying because those channels cannot be recorded. Tablo supposedly has been working on a solution for this issue, but it has been a long time with no fix.

It’s worth noting that Tablo’s guide provider is Gracenote. Gracenote told Tablo they would not make corrections to subchannel data submitted by Tablo.

Of course, this is stupid on Gracenote’s part, because their reason for being IS to provide correct guide data. Hopefully, Tablo is actively searching for a guide aggregator that actually cares about keeping their data accurate.

I would advise anyone with incorrect guide data to reach out to the individual stations and submit an inquiry directed to their chief engineer or person in charge of programming and ask them to update their information with Gracenote.

@Scott_Graham, I submitted a request for channel 35 (Hartford CT DMA), and Tablo has fixed MeTV channels 35.7 (Story), 35.8 (Toons). They now have correct programming guide data displayed. They could not fix channel 35.9 (Dabl) because they could not find a matching channel or relevant program listing in their guide data system to remap it.
