Poor station playback

Last weekend I wanted to watch a football game on the local FOX channel, and it was so glitchy it was unwatchable. The picture kept pixelating, and would then stop completely with a dialog box that said something like ‘playback halted’. I flipped over to the HD Homerun app and tuned the same station, and it was crystal clear with no glitches at all.

My setup is: Attic antenna, single line straight down to office to a splitter, with one line then going to Tablo and the other to the HD Homerun, both of which are using wired 1Gb Ethernet connections. On the other side of the wall is an AppleTV 4K, also using wired Ethernet. On the AppleTV I have the latest versions of both the Tablo app and the HD Homerun app.

Take the splitter and the HDhomerun out and see if you’re still having issues with the Tablo. Then take the splitter and the Tablo out and see if you’re still having an issue with the homerun. Sounds like a weak signal issue.

Maybe I’ll just try swapping the lines from the splitter to each device and see if the problem follows the connection. Both the HDHomeRun and the Tablo show strong signals when I scan for channels though.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always tell the whole story.

In my opinion the Tablo tuner isn’t robust. I notice more reception issues on the Tablo than either my TV or Amazon Recast.

I have a Recast and a Tablo 4g. They seem pretty comparable in terms of tuner sensitivity, sometimes the Recast is better, sometimes the Tablo. Neither appear to be as good as most TV tuners.

Companies often set a price point and then develop a product to fit that. They should develop a great product and then price it accordingly.

I too have the Recast and the Tablo 4. I agree that both tuners are not as good as my Sony OLED TV tuner; however, the difference is not significant and appears on weak signal strenth channels. On good signal channels the picture is very good regardless of the box being used.

Has anyone tried this with any sucess?Amazon.com: Philips LTE Filter for TV Antenna, Filters 4G 5G LTE Signal to Reduce Interference and Pixilation for Clear Digital HD TV Reception, Frequency Range 5-608 MHz, Indoor Outdoor Installation, SDW1520/27 : Electronics

I use one. Not sure if I needed it but wanted to make sure as I do see cell towers nearby.

These devices invariably make the problem worse, not better. If you’re serious about OTA reception, get a Televes DINOVA, DAT or ELIPSE antenna with built-in amplifier and power supply.

I have one of those by channel masters and it does makes a difference where I live because every time the planes fly by, our signal gets lost and with this filters the picture remains more often

I installed mine today. It’s a bit windy today so good test. I saw a moderately improvement watching the artifacts/pixillation on abc in my area. Using my tv tunner and the tablo. I’m confident it improves reception.
