PC World Article on Tablo with updates on timeline for offline playback and firmware for older models

Noted at the end of the article:
Current Roku issues aside, Slater says Tablo has done a lot of recent work to improve connectivity in Tablo’s firmware, apps, and back-end server connections. I’ll be checking to see if those claims hold up in the coming weeks. But the bigger updates may come over the summer. That’s when Tablo plans to launch offline playback support and offer its new firmware as an optional upgrade for older DVR models. (Tablo originally planned to make that upgrade available in the fall of 2023.)

I kind of like the features, navigation, and functionality of my OG Tablo. Maybe they could use the OG firmware on the Gen4 device. That would be a good pilot, eh?

They could copy it, but there’s really no relationship between OG Tablo and new 4th gen Tablo architecturally. So, possible, but only with effort.

Great article. Thanks for sharing.

Just for clarification, the way I read this, by “offline playback support” I believe they are referring to the ability to use all your OTA TV functions WITHOUT an internet connection. I don’t believe they are talking about remote viewing.

Agree. I think it’s the issue with the 4th gen requiring constant internet connection that they’re attempting to fix there.
