Is tablo tv going to add out of home viewing if not is there a way to do this
Good old VPN would do the trick. I do L2TP VPN from my phone with the push all traffic across VPN on my iphone.
KimchiGUN,
I have never used VPN, but am starting to look into it. Here is my question… when you are outside your home network and using VPN, are you watching on a computer or a phone or some other device that is running a separate VPN app? Are you able to access it directly via a streaming device like a Roku?
The easiest way and works perfectly is to create a VPN on your home router. Almost all current routers have a vpn option so let their software create the needed keys and such. Once created you simply add the router key to your phone using any number of free apps available on google play. I use Openvpn but there are many good ones. I simply click one button on the openvpn app and in less than a second I am on LAN anywhere in the world. Since I am on LAN the Tablo thinks I am in the living room and performs accordingly.
Easy!
caveat: if you have an ISP that changes your IP a few times a year (most do) you will need to setup DDNS, which is also easy using most routers nowadays.
I use my iPhone and a Windows laptop. I use the built in iPhone VPN option and the built in Windows VPN option too. I use BlueStacks on my Windows Laptop.
My SMB/enterprise router has the L2TP VPN server feature. Which I configured against my public dhcp address from comcast.
@MO-Tablo-user - Just the reiterate what he mentioned… I have comcast and my IP changes every YEAR… so I setup a DDNS through DUCKDNS which is free. It works very well.
Back to KGBnut, I use it to watch some movies and shows at work on my lunch. I sit at my desk, connect to the VPN, and load the Tablo APP.
You will need to select the “push all traffic across VPN” option in the iphone within the VPN configs. Same with Windows VPN option too.
edit:
you can use a Roku remotely. You would do a site 2 site VPN between 2 routers. With public IP addresses or a DUCKDNS DDNS… then PBR traffic your Roku across the VPN.
edit again:
PBR = Policy Based Routing
