If you mean the “Antenna Amplification” setting under General, then yes, I have tried with it on and off.
And I started with whatever the flat rectangular antenna was on our Samsung TV since it was in the same room and that TV picks up all the local channels. It has a inline amp that I tried both on and off. Then I tried another of the same style antenna from one of our Roku TVs that picks up all the local channels.
Then I saw in /r/CordCutters some were recommending traditional bunny ears, so I picked this antenna up from Walmart and tried, but got the exact same result.
Lets see if they have it fixed prior to the Super Bowl which will be on 5.1 in the Memphis area on Feb 8.
I’m slowly beginning to believe that Tablo might not be at fault. I did a post earlier in this thread outlining a problem in the Dallas area caused by transmitters on adjacent actual channels. I looked up Memphis and found that chans 5.x are sandwiched between PBS and CW. PBS transmits on Actual channel 29, channel 5.1 on Actual channel 30 and CW on Actual channel 31. It only takes one dirty transmitter to create problems with an adjacent transmitter. 5.1 has 2.
I was able to improve my reception on the problem channel by pointing my antenna 30 degrees off axis. That moved the problem transmitter to a side lobe and reduced the signal level received from the from the bad transmitter.
I would like for you to experiment by pointing your antenna off axis on one side, run the channel scan, save it and look for 5.1. do the same with the antenna pointed to the other side.
The problem with WMC 5.1 is clearly not an antenna or reception issue. The posters in Memphis can get all the other 5.x subchannels of WMC. All the WMC subchannels are multiplexed on the same RF 30 carrier. If the RF 30 signal was too weak or there was adjacent channel interference then none of the subchannels would play.
Folks in Memphis, scroll down the Tablo home page to the Live and Upcoming Sports section. Find an upcoming event on NBC and click on it. Then click on Watch WMC live now. That will confirm that your antenna is receiving 5.1 just fine.
For what it’s worth, I tried news/shows/sports and never did 5.1/NBC show up.
I’m very new to all of this, but @Ron1 mentioned going to the “Home Screen” and looking for “Live and Upcoming Sports”, which may be different from what you see for the categories on the left. But, I do not have any problem watching any stations, so I’m just guessing it might be different.
I am happy to say that someone from Tablo contacted me and asked me to rescan my channels then restart my Tablo and channel 5.1 is now there.
Same here.
Did they say what they did to fix it? I wonder if they also fixed the problem @mikeh_123 had with the NBC station in Seattle. The guide was out of wack for certain channels - #5 by mikeh_123
Nothing was said to me other than rescan and look for it.
What? All I got was “Tablo Automated Assistant” telling me to try the things I said did not work in the original ticket.
It did come back and tell me to open a request for guide data then closed the ticket.
I just re-scanned using the android app on my phone, and 5.1 still doesn’t show.
Did you have to wait some time after the scan for the guide to refresh or something?
I kept re-scanning with no change.
But 5.1 WMC-TV finally showed up in the guide today.
I’m currently watching Premier League Soccer with a decent picture and will try recording something later.
For what it’s worth, Antenna Amplification is currently off, and I’m using this Walmart antenna.
Good to hear you’re getting what you need. At your distance that cheapo-phillipo antenna should be just fine, although something more permanent or immovable would be nice.
Even though they didn’t let me know this was resolved it finally got corrected last week (last week of January).
