Tablo 4 tuner model. Connected with ethernet cable. Using Fire TV Max. Very often when watching a recorded episode, the blue light will come on on the Tablo. Seems to be a slow to solid blue, then white, then blue, then off. The episode plays fine until the end. Then I’ll get a message on the screen that the Tablo has disconnected. Sometimes clicking retry it will come back. Other times it will display that “The connection to your Tablo has been lost and is taking longer than usual to recover”. Resetting with the button on bottom it will come back. A few times it’s worse and I get “No Tablo Found” and have to reset and reselect my Tablo device. Very frustrating. So far none of this seems to affect recording shows and I don’t know that it’s missed any–it’s only a problem when playing back.
You said you are connected via Ethernet, I’m assuming that is the connection between the Tablo and your router. How does the steaming device connect to your network? Is that also Ethernet, or is that WiFi? (I’m not familiar with the Fire TV Max, so I don’t know if it is even capable of being hard-wired.) Assuming WiFi, about how far is it from your router to the TV? Tablo is more demanding of your WiFi than is Netflix, Hulu, and the like.
A couple of things I would try. You said that you rebooted the Tablo, did you also try rebooting the streaming device and the router? I would try both of those.
If that doesn’t fix your problem, try clearing the cache on your streaming device. Some devices automatically clear their cache on reboot. I don’t believe that Fire devices do. You can find more information here.
If none of that solves the problem, I would try uninstalling, and reinstalling the Tablo app on your streaming device.
Let us know how your make out.
I just noticed that you said that it happened when watching recorded programs. Do you not get the same issue when watching live OTA programs?
Are you using an external hard drive? If so, what kind/size? Also, how full is your storage?
Tablo is Hardwired with Ethernet cable…not WiFi. FireTV is using WiFi. I rarely watch LiveTV via Tablo so can’t say how that works. External 2TB Hardrive (Western Digital) and it’s got 50-60% free.
That is a good quality hard drive, and not over full. Try the other things I suggested and let us know how it works out.
