I’ve notice on some of my “low-budget” OTA channels, I never get thumbnails on recordings. These are channels that air retro sitcoms from the 80s, 90s, and earlier. These are pre-HD shows broadcast in 480i. However, I have other channels that broadcast in 480i, and they get thumbnails just fine.
This is not really a problem for me. I only record these shows occasionally when I am feeling nostalgic. I just find it odd that these channels consistently do not get the Tablo-generated thumbnails and I am just curious why this might be from a technical standpoint.
The two channels that fail are 11.2 Antenna TV and 11.4 Rewind TV in the New York area. For comparison, 48.4 Outlaw generates thumbnails just fine. One difference I did notice is that RabbitEars.Info says that the two that are not generating thumbnails “contain MPEG-4 video.”
