Yes unfortunately. I wish it was that easy.
Above you reported that the firmware utility told you that firmware on your HDD was up to date. Did you āforceā a firmware update like philsoft recommended?
Yes It did force the update
Then Tablo needs the logs from your Tablo to tell you why.
Iām a new Tablo customer who is experiencing the āNo hard driveā error.
Newly purchased equipment:
- Tablo Device: 2.2.6 (Tablo DVR for HDTV Antennas, 4-Tuner with Wi-Fi) in attic
- Seagate Expansion 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEB5000100) in attic
- Cisco WUMC710 Wireless-AC Wi-Fi 5GHz Universal Media Connector Bridge with 4-Port Switch in attic
- Asus RT-AC68U 802.11ac wireless router on main floor
My objective is to replace a Windows 8.1 Media Center that used HD HomeRun HDHR4-2US that was capable of recording two 1080p channels across my 802.11ac wireless network. So far, setup has had challenges and performance has not been as good.
My current problem is the āNo Hard Driveā error. Is settings, it reads āNo hard drive connectedā. If I power cycle the power strip that contains both the Tablo and the Seagate Expansion 5TB drive, the problem is not resolved.
The blue light on the Tablo continues to flash about once a second. The hard drive continues to have a various read/write noises. My perception is that these two devices will stay in this state indefinitely.
How do I have the drive recognized?
I had the same Western Digital Elements 1 TB, but replaced it with 5 TB when it became supported by Tablo. Like you said, up to a firmware update after the large hard drive support is what broke it.
@jasonpearce - Sorry to hear youāre having this issue. Sometimes a firmware update on the Hard Drive will do the trick but it sounds like the cable on your Seagate may not be drawing enough power. Weāve had lots of success in swapping out that cord with this one: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030310&p_id=11166&seq=1&format=2
You guys gave me the same advice on my ticket (which you didnāt reply back yetā¦). I have the same issue. Same hard drive that worked flawless before 2.2.6 for over a year. Something in 2.2.6 broke this and this is a poor remedy.
My 2TB harddrive that worked for almost a year (WD AV drive) also wouldnāt connect after 2.2.6. I replaced it with a Seagate 5TB and that has been working well for about a week now.
I just upgraded my Tablo to 2.2.8 a couple of days ago and Iāve had the āNo hard drive connectedā issue on and off since then. I havenāt had hard drive issues before. Tried unplugging and even restarting all components (Tablo, Drive) and canāt seem to fix it.

You are not only one suffering this issue. Iām a new Tablo owner and I discovered the issue today. Iām going to open a ticket. The universal firmware updater doesnāt detect my Elements drive, and in fact Elements is not a listed line that the updater supports.
My patience has just about worn thin on this. Iāve tried 3 different computers, 1 Mac and 2 Windows 7 boxes. The universal updater does not recognize the WD Elements drive, just the passport, my book, etc. I bought the Elements explicitly because Tablo recommended it. I opened a ticket, hopefully they respond.
@jpsep - Sorry to hear youāre having trouble with your drive. Our team will look at your ticket today.
That thread/response is gone. I am getting the NO HARD DRIVE error. Under settings, Tablo no longer detects a drive. I have power cycled router, tablo, roku 3, wd elements drive many times. No help there. The drive is <30 days old, worked fine until today. White light stay on all the time ā¦It think.it used to blink. Advice?
