Hello.
My unit ran out of disk space last night. The auto-delete didn’t delete any programs either, so my recording failed.
Suggestion: When viewing your library, you should have the option to check how much space each recording occupies. This would allow you to manually delete recordings that take up the most space.
What 10 recordings from a single PBS show would take up 116 GB. Unless you are talking about multiple shows each with 10 recordings. When using flash storage the recording is suppose to be made in MPEG2 and then transcoded to MPEG4(h.264) to save space. I’m not sure that is always happening.
I don’t think that auto delete works if you have a series set for X amount saved. You’re automatically deleting the oldest once the newest is finalized, keeping a set number. You would have to change these shows to use auto delete as well.
When it comes to converting the files to MP4, it can only be done when the machine has an available tuner and enough time to do it. zippy could be right that it’s not doing this when it should, but if you have too many programs set to save X number, it defeats the purpose of auto delete.
I have found nothing that says a gen 4 requires a tuner to transcode.
So I wanted to compare my 2-tuner gen 4 using flash to my legacy 2 tuner 128gb doing the same thing I would be doing during NCAA football season. I recorded 3 games each on 2 720P channels for a total of 11 hours each - total 22 hours. It didn’t appear to do any transcode no matter how long I waited. Even after rebooting the unit.
To allow the archiving process sufficient time to function, it is not possible to record more than 8 hours of content within a 24-hour time frame without an external hard drive.
During this process, recordings will be converted automatically in the background from the original MPEG2 broadcast format into MPEG4.
It takes approximately twice the length of the airing to complete the archiving process.
Hello.
I was a little confused how the auto-delete function worked. When I was using a Series2 Tivo. I would record each show and set it to keep ‘10 shows’. The Tivo would then auto-delete old shows based on how much disk space each show was using. HD shows typically used more disk space, so they were rotated sooner, than say SD ones.
However, The Tablo doesn’t seem to take this into account. It treats each show equally, so if you run out of free space, it just can’t record. It’s not smart enough to auto-delete to clear space.
To answer the other question. I was recording multiple OTA 1080P shows and streaming. Mainly 1080P.
Streaming:
Scripps News
Two Oceans
All the OTA recordings are 1080P.
PS.
I also did buy an external HD but found the process annoying. When I plugged in the 1TB drive, it ignored all the shows I had recorded on the SSD. I wish it would have treated the 1TB drive as a ‘2nd’ drive, and used the SSD drive as primary. So instead of having to manually select all the shows I wanted to record again, I just gave up on using external storage.
PPS. Why do you display Conflict/Failure value a “red dot” with a 0 value. Perhaps only make the value the color. I don’t understand why it is urgent to tell me there are 0 errors Recording sub-pages also have this value, but the color is a lot more gentle on the eyes, using a ‘white dot’.
