New to Tablo, looking for router/modem advice

I got a Tablo yesterday from Best Buy. Unfortunately, the Ethernet port was defective so I have already returned it to Best Buy, but I was very impressed with what I saw otherwise, so I will be placing an order for another one here in a few minutes.

That said, I am looking for some “build” advice on my setup (mainly the router and/or modem). Currently I am planning on this configuration:

Tablo 4
Seagate Expansion 3TB Hard Drive
Apple TV 4
Mohu Leaf 50 antenna

The modem/router part of the equation is still a bit undecided.

I will have internet access from Time Warner (soon to be Spectrum). And in a few months I will be living in a fairly long, mostly one-story home, which could mean that signal strength could be an issue.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? For anything really, not just the modem/router.

Thanks in advance.

TP-Link Archer C7

Where do you live? SEE WWW.TVFOOL.COM. You might want a Winegard FL5500A instead which is designed for VHF and UHF.

I am only about 13 miles from the cluster of towers that provide almost all of my TV channels, so the Mohu (from what I saw of it while it was all hooked up) was doing a pretty good job.

I will definitely keep this in mind for the future though, in case my reception has issues in the future.

Thanks.

Wow, that review was about all you could ask for in a router. Do you use it?

I use it and it is excellent. Make sure your devices support Wireless AC. I know the Tablo doesn’t but the MiBox and most of the streaming devices do.

I have an Arris SB6190 Cable modem. Cable modem you want to watch how many channels as well as speed.

I have an Netgear Nighthawk R7000 and a Motorola Surfboard. But them both in about 2 years ago when I converted to Tablo and both are still working well. I think there are newer version available at this point but they’ve been quite reliable.

I have Arris SB6190 cable modem, which has 32 channels for bonding, but only 24 are currently being used. I have TP Link Archer C7 router. My Cable Modem is connected to my router using CAT-6, NOT Cat-5.

I have the Motrola SURFboard SB6121 modem, purchased three years ago. It works fine, but I’m sure better is available by now. However, I just replaced a third generation Apple Time Capsule from 2010 with Google Wifi, and I’ve seen improvement in network performance. Besides the three nodes giving me better coverage on both floors of the house, I’ve had a better experience with Tablo. Previously, using the Apple TV remote to skip ahead or backwards more than two times in quick succession would result in a pause for buffering. Google Wifi is much more tolerant of multiple skips before buffering.
